Electronics Problems

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

first off I'm not here to slag the Skoda (despite all I like my Fabia) but I'm experiencing tons of problems.

I have taken the car to many authorized Skoda mechanics but they cannot find the cause of the problems.

1) The power stearing light comes on and the stearing fails

- The sensors have been changed but to no avail

2) EPC light comes on from time to time and does not go off

- the car runs normally though

3) The valve light comes on and does not go off either

- the car runs normally

4) When started the revs keep building up and dropping without any power being applied (sometimes they drop so low that the car stalls)

- If I restart the car from 2 to 5 times it stops doing that

5) I keep losing oil up to 1 liter per 1000 km

- The mechanics can't find where it goes, the exhaust is clean and no leaks can be spotted.

6) Today as I was driving to work the following happened: First the power stear light came on and the power stearing died, then the ABS light came on but I could still brake (thank God), then the parking brake light started flashing and the now all familiar beep-beep could be heard. I shut down the thing and it would not start up again no matter what I tried. I called a friend he gave me a push and we started it ... no control lights came on and the car was running like nothing happened.

Please can someone shed any light on this or tell me what I need to do, sorry for the bother but I need to drive the car back home from Ireland to Slovenia (about 2000 km + 18 hour fery crossing) and I would be somewhat sad if I had to explain all this to a French, German or Austrian person should they decide to assist me on a highway somewhere in Europe.

It could be a battery problem, this could account for the steering and I have experienced the revving on a Fabia with a dead battery. What is the valve light? EPC is the electronic power control you could have a faulty brake light switch.

Without the fault codes it is difficult - if the battery is old get it replaced and check its connections, check the fusible links on top of the battery.

Doubt that it is a battery problem since I had it replaced about 6 months ago. The 'valve' light I think is the engine servo.

Thanks for the reply

Doesn't the power steering have its own battery? - which won't have been changed when you replaced the main battery. How old is the car?

A check of diagnostic codes should enable you to get closer to the seat of the problem.

Don't know if the power stearing has its own supply but I doubt that this is the problem anyway. Have just drove the car from work and it started up like a dream but it did not last, first the ABS light came on after that the 'you are not wearing the seat bealt' light came on even though I was strapped in, after that the power stearing went, after that the handbreak light started flashing and beeping, the RPM meter froze on 2000 RPM as did the speed indicator ... then a few houndred meters ahead all control lights went out one by one except for the power stearing which decided not to cooperate. I'd imagine that my electronics are completely shut.

The car was manufactured 04.08.2000.

Check the earthing points in the engine bay.

First off, thanks for the help guys, the yellow menace as I like to call it is currently in the garage and they will do their best I'm sure.

Will let you know what they find out since the computer threw back too many errors to make sense.

Once again thank you all.

Let us have the error codes, there are people on this forum who have a lot of experience with Skodas and may have come across and fixed these errors before.

Sure, when I get the car back the codes should be in the report and I'll post them.
