Looking to upgrade head unit on 2013 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I've seen you on a few posts regarding the head units for Skodas, I have a 2013 1.6 Octy with a basic head unit, mib1 I believe, no satnav I just have dab, I'm just wondering what my options are for upgrading the unit? I've seen android head units that look nice and also seen some people have upgraded to mib2 as well, just looking for some advice on what options I have for upgrading? I have attached the info from my current device below :)

Thanks in advance,

Christian

no satnav means you will have to add an antenna if you go for a MIB2 Upgrade.

Maybe PAB has one.

Android head units are nice but can get you a headache to be set right.

If you don't care about call quality and don't mind loosing a few features, android head units are the way to go.

If not, go with an MIB2 upgrade, swap the usb port for the one that allows android auto and carplay, add your gps antenna and you are good to go

I wasn't sure because obviously the features that are on the current unit give you control over some of the car features and show you errors with the car etc. Also I wasn't sure what the costs difference would be. What do I search when I'm looking for one that will fit the car, android and mib 2?

On the VW-retrofit website the MIB2.5 is about £750 fitted (the Columbus is £1200) but I'm sure there are fellas on here that can supply and you fit for much much less!

Thanks dude much appreciated:)

@Umrelllaski now you have Bolero MIB1. Pls share your VIN via PM so I can check configuration details.

Basically I do NOT recommend Android based units, especially if you want to drive this car for next couple of years. For OEM solution you can install one of four different glove box units:
- MIB2 Bolero
- MIB2 Amundsen
- MIB2 Columbus
- MIB2.5 Columbus

You also need to replace display unit:
- for MIB2 Bolero you can use either 6.5" model number 5E0919605H or 8" model number 5E0919605N
- for MIB2 Amundsen and MIB2 Columbus you can use listed above display as well as 6.5" model number 5E0919605J, 8" model number 5E0919606, 8" model number 5E0919605M
- for MIB2.5 Columbus the only display unit that works is 5E0919606D

The questiona are what is ypour location, what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have":
1. Video playback from DVD, USB, SD
2. CD playback
3. OEM navigation
4. displaying OEM maps na Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display).

MIB2 Bolero - no OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB

MIB2 Amundsen - OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

MIB2 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, no support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

One further feature on columbus I think is the ability to connect 2 bluetooth devices at the same time.  Good if you have a work phone alongside your personal one.  This may be limited to specific columbus variants.
