Cruise control retrofit

I still have a slight running issue a lumpy idle and rpm drops @ 3000 rpm. So if that doesn't cost too much I may be getting a new interior seen a nice one from a polo gt.

A new steering wheel with multifunction, a new gear knob, and a new handbrake. The current ones just feel nasty.

Yeah, so the Polo interior won't fit the Fabia, different body shapes and dimensions, the front seats are the only bit that might fit as long as it's a Polo 9N.

  • So I swapped the ecm pin to 69 and now it's all working.   A massive thanks to all that helped it's been a journey.   I can see why some say they wouldn't do another.

REF cruise cable, its easy enough to remove the windscreen wiper scuttle panel, then the wiper motor etc for access.........then.....   Run the cable through the bonnet release cable grommet

  • That's great thank you, The pictures help alot. I wasn't too sure on what people were saying when mentioning the bonnet release cable but I see now. Its to get it though from the scuttle area it makes

Ahh that's a shame as they do look similar. Not a fan of the red on the monte carlo or vrs seats. So looks like I'll be keeping the current ones.

Vrs seats are pretty nice, very different feeling than the gym benches it comes with normally. Mine came with the under seat storage and heat pads. New drop links and i'm colin McRae in the twisties now. LED interior lights and auto switch for headlights are the next easiest things to do btw

I have already fitted the auto light switch can't say I'm massively impressed with it but it does work, Sensitivity seems to be quite low. Yes led interior light would be a big help the standard one it's quite dim.

Yes the standard seats are quite flat but the car is just a work mule on mainly A roads so not much chance of having fun lol. Still not a fan of the red tho I'd have the mk1 vrs seats but I doubt they fit and apparently the white is a pain to keep clean.

My mk2 vrs seats are the same black, but with white stiching and a vrs logo. Nothing in the "hard to keep clean" territory.

As for the light switch, it needs a bit of tuning. On the bluetooth app i've made it have:

40% threshold for sidelights

Default for headlights (bugged but it works)

1S delay for turning on

10S delay for turning off

Fog lights auto on with headlights

30S delay for coming home

10s delay for leaving home

The sensor is placed on the dashboard in the corner where the windscreen vents are, only see the reflection of it

Oh very nice I thought they were all red I haven't see many vrs interiors for sale I must be confusing the monte carlo ones.

Ahh OK I'll give those settings a try.

40% may trigger in very clear days at sunset and feel way too early, but in cloudy days (most days..) it's spot on.

I also recommend led front sidelights. The w5w pro ones from halfords don't fit the interior dome but are perfect for outside. No fault codes and are legal!

The middle festoon bulb in the dome also works very well with halfords pro led stuff, and you'll be left with a spare. (Also fits licence plate bulbs.. again legal)

Do not buy the non-pro of anything, they just melt.

In this pic you can just about see the cable from the light sensor in the corner. Discreet enough for me

A nice install I just brought mine up in the corner it's hidden behind my phone holder. Also I installed my dashcam but I can't hide it behind the rear view mirror in this car as its so tiny lol.

Ha. Tell me about it. Plenty of leg room but the damn mirror is right at eye level and the B pillars level with the head

But it gets the wife's approval it's hopefully going to be cheap to run and plenty of parts to get it how I want. I definitely want to change the steering wheel to a leather one including the gear knob and handbrake lever as they feel really cheap.

I had Leon fr diesel a few years ago and that was a torque monster I had it mapped and was a nightmare in the wet. But it started to develop lots of faults, the central locking started playing up and the wiring behind the dash failed which cost me £600 to fix as I thought it was an imobiliser fault. So after that it had to go so this is my first foray back into the vag world since.

Build quality on Seats is pretty terrible, Skoda is up there with Audi, VW sits in the middle.

It's funny as alot of people say the skoda is the budget vag. I'm sure the polo has alot more sound deadening and effort put into nvh but so far the fabia is a fine little car.

A lot of stupid people with long memories, back when Skoda had no money and was run on a shoestring budget, then VAG took over and pumped in enormous amounts of cash, my Fabia was probably built in 2002, over 20 years ago and it STILL won't rust.
