Options on Winter Alloys/wheels ?

Featured Replies

As above I am looking for a set of winter wheels/alloys do any other VAG makes fit looking at 17” possibly 18”

Plenty will fit. Once you have assured yourself the wheels fit the 5-hole fixing of the rims, diameter of the bolt circle 112 mm, diameter of the central hole of rim 57 mm, then you move on to finding out if they meet the rim (expressed usually as 6.5J or 7J etc), diameter (here you want 17 or 18) and offset or ET. This will be specified as ET45 (say) - each increment / decrement is 1mm so anything up to about 4 or 5mm difference is not too crucial. But aim for as close as you can get. Your owners brochure might give you the exact spec of the recommended winter wheels.

From the Octavia section of a recent Skoda wheel catalogue, in 17 or 18 you could choose Luxon, Comet, Braga, Perseus, Lyra, Vega Aero, Pulsar, Aries and Rotare. Searching your favourite auction site for Skoda, VW, Audi and Seat alloys will give you plenty more options.

18 inch wheels will demand less sidewall, more expensive tyres, more chance of damaging the alloys and a harsher ride. But your car may look smarter in the chiropractor's car park.

Skoda, along with VW, Audi, Seat generally use 5 hole rims with 57.1mm centre bore.   There are 2 sizes, 100PCD (bolt spacing) used on smaller cars eg Fabia, Scala, Kamiq and bigger 112PCD used on Octavia, Karoq, Superb etc

There is a Skoda wheels brochure

https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/639a0118-4da5-446b-a786-86e1f789b57b

note Octavia mk4 is shown as Roman numerals IV (do not confuse with hybrid iV)

There is also brochure of wheels with tyres fitted

https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/d1040b95-40f0-431a-95ed-d531f289c13f

Use the brochure to check the offsets and wheel sizes.  I believe they can all be ordered through parts Dept, but probably cheaper to order tyres from an internet tyre supplier.  You will need to ask parts Dept for prices of your shortlist (parts codes are in brochure)

I have Borbet rims for my winter wheels, never had any problems with them, and seem to be cheaper than VW Group charge, they have a handy will they fit configurator on their website, where put in make and model and it filters to what is suitable

I want to order alloy rims and winter wheels. I have 17" summer set, but for winter I am looking for 16" rims, probably Borbet, since they are much cheaper than genuine Skoda rims. Is 3mm offset difference compared to compared to standard ET fine? In Skoda catalogue I found that standard 16" rims dimensions are 6.5j (or 7j), 5x112mm, 57.1mm, ET 46. The Borbet rims I am looking are 6.5j, 5x112mm, 57.1mm, ET 43. I guess this is totally fine, but better to get few it confirmed :)

Should be fine. Some claim up to 15mm difference is unimportant but I disagree. And it's the easier option - outwards - so no fouling issues. Great price.

The hub centre bore on aftermarket alloy rims are usually be too big, so spigots would be needed.

The below 16" alloy rims from the Skoda accessory catalogue weigh about 9.5kg each. For comparison, the 17" alloy rims weigh about 11kg each and the 18" alloy rims weigh about 13kg each.

One of the below alloy rims has a 7J rim width so as well as the standard 205/60R16 tyre size, the non-standard 225/55R16 could also be considered. There are two standard 225 tyre sizes on the Octavia MK4, ie. 225/45R18 and 225/40R19 but the 225/55R16 would give much better ride comfort and provide much better protection from kerbing damage.

The central hub bore on this Borbet rim should be the same as on genuine Skoda rims. BTW, Borbet is producing OEM rims for Skoda (probably not all Skoda OEM rims). I found OEM rims (at least I hope it is not fake) on ads, but I am not fan of black rims and I am thinking is it better to buy OEM Skoda rims from a reseller or Borbet rims in a store...
