Headlight removal

Featured Replies

Has anyone experience of removing a headlight from a Kodiaq or know where there's instructions or a video how to do  it?

Looks like someone has reversed in to my car. The bumper itself isn't out of shape but there's some nasty scratches that need repaired next to the fog light.  It's been booked in to be repainted.

Thing is I'm looking at it again and although the main headlight unit is perfect, the fog light looks as if it may have been pushed back a little- perhaps 5mm. I know the headlight / fog is one unit so just wondering if I'm able to adjust the fog back in to position or...   I'm praying it doesn't have to be a whole new headlight. If the fog it is a little out of position then I may  be able to do a bodge job.

Have to admit this Kodiaq is picking up more little scrapes around the front bumper edges than just about every other car I've owned put together. Not sure if it's because of the sloping front - the bumper does protrude somewhat from the headlight. It's usually light scrapes from shopping trolleys or people brushing past it but this is defo something heavier that's gone in to it.

I bought a workshop manual on dvd Rom off eBay, not expensive if I recall.

From the workshop manuals in the Kodiaq Guides section on here…

👍 kenny R.  Brilliant.

Will also check ebay. never thought of that.

The headlight and front foglight are one piece.

Thanks Silver2011, is that just in case I'd forgot since asking the question? :D

If the fog has been pushed back a few mm, but the headlight hasn't, it suggests that perhaps some plastic tab on the unit has bent or sheared or whatever. Won't know until I look. Fingers crossed I should be able to bodge a repair. If it'd been the main headlight that had moved then that's a diffent matter. It could of course be just the clear plastic leans has moved inwards but there's not a mark on it.

I can't really work out what's happened. Obviously something has scapped along the bumper and bitten in to bodywork, but if you look at the corner of the bumper where it meets the lens, theres a wee bit of damage in there as well. That suggests it hit the lens. As I say there shouldn't be any gap between the edge of the lens and bumper but it's about 3-5mm. The rest of the fog/headlight is perfect. It's as if that part of the bumper has popped out somehow but it hasn't lost any shape.

The really weird thing is there are scratches at the bottom of the bumper too but not in the centre where it protudes the most.  Might be something like a shopping trolley ( but it didn't happen in a car park ) or a pram or...    I haven't a clue.

Just check the other side and compare.  I have. Feeling there is a slight gap on ours between bumper and fog light on both sides as I thought it strange at first but other I've looked at are the same.

As you say perhaps it's the bimler that has moved or come off one of its fixings rather than the light (we had that on our Fabia ages ago but you could see Shere the bimler had moved on its fixings.  Lossening a few screws etc. and pushing it back into place soon sorted it.
