Can you recover deleted photo's from your computer?

Featured Replies

Probably a big fat no.

Is there anyway you can recover deleted photo's from your computer? Are they secretly stored somewhere?

Thanks for your help,

Cuthbert

Yes, but if I told you.........

Yes can be recovered easily, assuming that the area of the hard disk has not been written to after the delete with other data. Have a search for undelete software on Google :D

Yes - porn is easy to find on peoples computers.

HTH :D

Are they not in your recycle bin?

Probably the answer is yes if you are using a Windows PC and have not done anything substantive to the PC since you deleted the files which has resulted in the relevant part of the PC hard disk being overwritten with new data.

Hernce it is important that you don't do anything significant with your PC which might over-write the data you want until you have had a good search for the files you want. So for instance don't download huge new files or install new programs or defragment your hard disk.

Your best chance is to check whether it is still lurking in the windows recyle bin.

With a bit of luck you will find the missing images are in there. In which case simply select them and choose restore to see them magically re-appear. If you have a comprehensive antivirus suite then you should check to see if it has a copy of the files tucked away in one of its options - eg Norton Undelete. Again if the files you are looking for are listed then simply follow the programme reinstate option to retrieve them to your hard disk.

Check out the relevant programme help file for detailed guidance on how to restore the files.

NB If you know when you deleted the files you should be able to use that date to narrow down the search.

Finally if the images are truly priceless then there are specialist firms like AEA Technology (I don't work for them) who for an arm a leg and several pints of blood will recover your data even if you PC has recently been dropped from a passing Jumbo jet.

Good luck

The program "Recover my Files" from here

http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ should find them (and lots of other stuff if asked) and is an excellent piece od software

it's incredibly easy, just d/l a recover proram. even if a file is written over it can be recovered, hence the DoD spec for erasing files is to write over them 7 times with 00011110000 or random so they become unrecoverable (even then not fully), or to go OTT the Gutman way of deleting files, write over the sectors 35 times.

However IMO the only way to safely stop people getting sensitive info from your PC when you sell it is to burn the HDD, that's what i'll be doing (not been looking at anything dodgy but don't want people finding out my bank details etc from word files saved on my PC)...

A few words on google give this:
