Strut brace rubbing on the bonnet insulation

Featured Replies

Ive installed a strut brace on my vrs and im finding there is a resonating rattle at 2000 rpm. If i pop the bonnet it instantly goes away so i assume its rubbing on the bonnet insulation. Anyone else experienced this and is there a cure without cutting the insulation away as i want to remove it when i sell the car without leaving any trace it was there .

is this a seat or forge motorsport strut brace?

never heard any problems with the seat one. may sound like a silly question but is it installed properly?

yep sure it is...not like you can get it wrong really is there. fits nice to look at. I have another look at the insulation and maybe slacken off and retighten the bolts to make it seat better but im sure its on right

More likely to be rubbing on the airbox? I don't see how insulation can rattle though? I've taken all mine off anyway. :D

Couldn't be faffed with it. It was looking dusty so whipped it off. Nice clean metal behind it. ;) Plus I think my engine doesn't need any insulation. Would rather it had cooler air around it.

;)

I have this rattle/buzz/vibration at 2k revs aswell  Ive taken it to the dealers, the mechanic said he thought it was nothing to do with the strut brace so they are going to keep the car for a couple of days to investigate.

I might do my own investigation tomorrow and take the strut brace off :o Surely it wouldnt make that noise rubbing on soft insulation material?

On the move at 2K or just reving at 2k at a standstill??

The engine cover can also catch slightly, have a look and see if it's rubbing, if it is some foam stuck to the cover or on the strut brace should solve it.

my dashboard is the getting a bit dusty also, so i may be out with the spanners this morning

When i had my Megan Coupé the bonnet insulation was deffinately rubbing on the strut brace, as you could see where it was taking the paint off the brace.. It didn't make any noise at all though.

The plot thickens.....

Last night on way home when it was really annoying me i popped the bonnet at about 10 mph and as per expected the noise vanished. So when i got home i had another look under the bonnet and couldnt find any reason for it. It clears the air box easy. Anyway closed the bonnet and went inside, and this moring no noise what so ever. Not even a hint on it at standstill or any speed when doing 2000rpm. So im not opening the bonnet ever again lol

Strange but true

I just fitted a FORGE strut brace. I found that the engine cover slighty rattled against the underside of the strut brace between 1500 rpm and 2500 rpm. So I took the cover off and hey presto! Rattle gone!! Plus, who needs a bit of plastic covering up the best part of the car?

Cant wait to fit a rear ARB and get a re-map!!

Have you noticed an increase in noise?

One thing that struck me when test driving a VRS against 100BHP TDI Fabias and Polos was how quiet the VRS was

My car is about as loud as a Fabia diesel can be, and I love it. No comfort factor any more. :D
