Booted the car when needed and no lack of acceleration. Driving in Green + today with windows open occasionally and sunroof tipped up. Air vents open and car comfy without AC on. 50% after 75 miles from start at 100%. 16 kWh to charge to 99% was £8.88. 36 minutes. Did 95 miles since then. 23% left / 25 miles. Half the miles were at 70 mph.

36 miles added, 11.5 kWh 11kw AC charging £5.45. so just about the same as running a petrol when £0.47 pence a kWh slow charging. Or the 50 pence. 70 pence public charging and 50 kW max is too expensive IMO. The minimum £5 charge that had me plugged in for just over an hour to get a fivers worth is ridiculous.

@lol-lol I have this MINI Cooper E for the day while my one gets brake pads at 18 months / 20,000 miles. Not from use but lack of use. Happy with this one rather than a SE or even a JCW electric or petrol. Far nicer back road nippy car.

My car booked on for 2 days next week. An issue showing up with the heater supposedly.. no mention of battery and any recall actions on that.. so I will believe what I am told. Do I want an Aceman or Countryman courtesy car? No I do not. Horrible uncomfy things..

I received the Health Check report and faults to Approve payment of, which are free as under warranty.

The TPMS warning light as stored faults we knew about. No sensors in my wheels.

But if they were going to be put in so not a MOT Failure by them.

£1,348.03. (Original wheels with sensons will be back on for the MOT.)

Fault stored defrost flap motor. Requires investigation.

Result.

Defrost flap desired position failed.

Internal stiff / blockage.

Requires new heating and air conditioning unit, air con gas, 2 flapsand associated gasket and bolts etc,

£2,040

Drivers side was rubbish demisting right from i got the car, i just assumed it was crap and engineered to suit left hand drive cars. So must be faulty right from the factory.

No wonder that it is known as a common fault on line / on forums.

Car getting dropped off tomorrow for the work.

A dash out job so hopefully creak free when i get it back.

Plastic seats are horrible in the heat. The ride far too hard on bad roads. 225/40 r 18 Maxxis. The screen a PITA as well. Light cloth would be no use to me. Not that I would have one if given to drive for free. Arm rest just a joke as is the door handles position and the seat adjusters on the side. Bloody quick but bouncing a out that much that you might get dizzy or unable to focus. Long story short. Not bothering driving it until it goes back. I will use my diesel. Very efficient though even with AC on. I will charge it to 100% tonight.

@Ootohere I wonder if the original mini coopers where hard riding like a go kart? Is it me or are these newer mini's narrower then the previous ones?

I had Minis, and a Clubman and a Van. All with Mini Auto or MG 1100 or 1300 autos. They cornered flat out on bends and went down the same roads as I drive now as fast. My Oxford Built MINI is far better riding. But is on smaller wheels. Plus comfy seats. My MINI 1727mm wide, this one 1756. No black wheel arch trims. Feels narrower inside.

I have seat fully back and low and steering wheel down and fully out.

My fingers can not reach the screen in the middle without leaning forward.

Not for messing with when driving IMO.

As the trend is for larger more so called stylish rims, there is less and less rubber between the road and the car so there is less flexing of the side walls, so you would have thought that they would have tuned the suspension to ride softer to be that little bit more supple, but sadly it seems is the newer generation cars are having a harder tighter ride. My son has an Audi A5 and that is also very hard riding.

That is part of the problem with todays cars, how can they claim that using a mobile phone is dangerous when driving but allowing things to be controlled through a touch screen in a screen is somehow perfectly safe to do? Bring back physical switches and knobs for everything, they can be operated without any need to look at what your doing.

There are companies that prohibit the taking of calls at all when driving.

How can I talk about a complex tax problem when driving ?

Should call be limited a few seconds ie I will call you at the next services or the like ?

Like they use to say about VP Gerald Ford " He cannot walk and chew gum at the same time "

I know that this is completely off topic, but we have been talking about cars big enough to take 4 x 6ft 4" giants and suddenly out of the ether this dropped into my suggested viewing on YouTube, long been a passion of but what a statement car even back when this new, 2006, there was nothing to touch it until you got to Bentleys and Rolls Royce's costing about 4 or more times the money.

As you will see there is plenty of room for all my family and more to spare 😁

@lol-lol fully charged after 30 miles of driving yesterday. Car was showing 85% battery after 30 miles.

Too hard a ride for the dog bouncing about. 16" wheels / tyres might well help a bit with that. And with improving range. Looks pretty good at 100% charge this morning. I have 80 miles to do today and it would be a cheap trip but not taking it. Yesterday left me with a sore back just driving it home. Boot keeps not shutting unless banged closed. That needs adjustment. Pretty poor from factory. Definitely getting a 2022 / 2023 MINI Cooper. Either by the one I have or another. They are so damn cheap now and more so hopefully August next year. Far superior car. The ICE are more expensive used, but I will have one if the price is right. Just to get a 5 door and not anything newer than 2023.. my MINI and the 520 BMW have you had samd space for driver and comfort. Minh controls are better / easy used. Not small symbols.

Hopefully my car is ready for tonight. This one does have totally amazing cooling /AC. It does show a 14 miles guesstimate of drop in range when on at full. Only 10 drop at Mid AC. Then there is range extending mode. They need to check that the Transport Blocks have been removed. Suspension is non existent. Tyres are not over inflated . Boot needs adjusted. Bloody uncomfortable car. That piece of webbing at bottom of the steering wheel is a nonsense IMO. And the cubby box and as for the armrest. Fisher Price... There is more foot 👣 / pedal space than my car and easier in and out. Seat base and back just so damn hard. Lots of adjustability. But not if you want to pump seat up or down with door closed, like while stopped at the lights...

I will see what a 1.5 petrol 5 door is like for comfort rather than a 2.0 Cooper S 3 or 5 door. JCW,s are just too like the new Electric. Hard. I like the clocks as they were pre Heads up. Comfort and finish is perfect.

Expecting this sort of range ie 165 miles when just driven when not too concerned with range and in summer.

Am in two about the Eco mode. In the Zoe it is restrictive, feels too sluggish in the 60-65 mph zone.

Scenic is spot on, just keeps it below indicated 72 mph so good for keeping one's licence.

Mini 2024/25 will still do indicated 100 mph even in Eco Mode. Son is really good keeping to,me not so good so I will have to watch it. Hopefully some nice pings when over the speed limit like I have with the Scenic's Google Nav system.

  • Author

@lol-lol The Over Speed limit warning is a funny little noise.

I thought it was the Transit Blocks making a croaking noise.

  • Author

Oo Oo Oo Oo is the noise as I come down the 20 mph high street and the car is doing 21 mph. Then Oo Oo Oo is me as I come over the 3 speed bumps at less than 10 mph getting into the park. The suspension is rock hard, and obviously the hatch is not right closed. Get feed up getting out to slam it again. After all reaching over a fixed arm rest to get the seat belt plugged in is a p|$$ take. I really have not disliked a car as much as this piece of crap since to the first Smart for two,s.

If you think the standard Cooper is hard the latest JCW, or sports spec i presume is another level of hardness. Even the Mini dealers/agent says it is really hard.

I think we will be in touch with you when the Exclusive level one arrives on our shores from China, said in a Trump tone, we will be looking for nice 16 inch rims, alloy or steel, with good 16 inch all weathers to take the hardness edge of the mini suspension.

  • Author

@lol0000 It was when i was at the local dealer that the salesman said it was an Exclusive i was in.

I did not want to change the setting that 'Kim' has on the car but her / his default is 22*o C heating.

So not max AC and not fast fan and low is OK in 24*oC plus heat just now. Windows a bit down.

Just driving in Core and default Reggen which seems hit or miss if one pedal or coasts.

But this accelerator is like an on off switch, very jumpy trying just to easy about at an average 12 mph in the 30 limit.

When i touch the brake pedal it is very long and soft. (I never touch my brake pedal usually except for a full stop.)

Sitting and putting the e-brake on then needs the way i have received the car the need to then foot on brake and switch to D / B to move. Not seemless like on my MINI which i foot on brake pedal or if on the flat just Switch on e-Brake and then moving off just use the accelerator.

If i do not buy a MINI SE or non Cooper S / JCW 2022 / 23 car i will be selling the Alloys & Maxxis tyres 195/60 R 16.

No wear on them.

I might take them off the car before this winter and put back on the Cars own 17" alloys and the Vredstein All seasons as they were only used for a few hundred miles.

The Maxxis AP3,s are damn good and a very good price.

I should have specced the wheels with the TPMS,s when i bought them i think it was only £155 option with My Tyres. These Alloys are very good & i almost went for 17" ones but glad i did not.

It is this switch like accelerator that I firmly believe is why it seems that many older people and or less experienced drivers are apparently coming to grief with some of these electric cars when moving in or out of parking spots or in slow heavy traffic with stop start being the order of the day, especially if the cars have a sports setting that sharpens the response even more.

@Graham Butcher I have driven lots of BEV,s now but this MINI E is very very different, unique even from a New MINI SE from China.

I would say it is pretty likely to be dangerous with some drivers.

Mostly they are not just quite as keep to move with a slight touch of the accelerator in their default mode.

I do not like the D/B or N selector either.

But i do like shifters, not the short of stubbies you get now, or buttons or switches.

Seat down and fully back and steering wheel down and out and my driving position i expect to select Drive, Reverse / N, e-Brake as i sit and using my left hand and not to lean forward to reach these.

(No i am not a Short Hand / Arm typist.)

Old model Level 3 is luxury in comparison. Actually there is no comparison to material that came off an animal for the seating and steering wheel.

An arm rest with padding & that can be swung out of the way is just common sense. Even if the wireless charger inside only suited small phones.

I-drive controller and selection buttons right at the position your hand can get to while driving and looking straight ahead and around without leaning forward away from the seat back.

Fantastic to get my car back, valeted and it seems as though no settiing changed. Going damn well with it's heavy accelerator. Had to take a diversion going in through a village with about a dozen speed bumps and very bad roads and was wishing I had taken the dual carriageway. Now Larry and am appreciating the car I have now. The dog is happier as well. 75 miles range when I collected it but AC on at max. 25 miles later running AC normal it is at 80 miles range.
