Turbo

Featured Replies

When my car is fixed and the jabba fmi is fitted, i am thinking of getting a better turbo fitted. I have searched but have found very little info. Roughly how much mnre bhp would a bigger turbo give and roughly how much would one cost??

Also is it a straight foreword swap?

Cheers

have a search on here for IHI turbo, gt28rs and gt30rs and see what it comes up with :)

it all depends on how much power you want really, if you want around 275bhp then just go and buy an S3 or TT 225bhp lump and chip it, if you want more then you are looking at a new turbo, injectors, exhaust, manifold, maf, pipework, internals plus a few more i've forgotton which will be setting you back 6k+ easy

Had a good luck around on the site and other performance shop sites. Thanks for the update. However, im a bit confused, are there any direct replacement turbos available or do you have to buy a full kit at the cost of around 2k??

Depends on what you want........Jabba has 3 stages for the IHI...stage 3 kit comes with everything...exhaust manifold, turbo, 3'' downpipe, big injectors, upgraded fuel pump, new oil lines for turbo, fitting kit, induction kit, remap, boost controller etc...can't remember if FMIC is included or the cat.

Fitted you are looking at a minimum of £5k.

Stage1 has an adapter plate fo rthe exhaust manifold to allow fitment of IHI.

Can't remember of what Stage 2 is.

Check out the Jabba site for details or give them a call.

For stage3 at minimum boost you'll get approx 280bhp and 340bhp for max boost.

Having the internals done will see max boost power rise to approx 360bhp and 340+Nm.

The cost of having the internals done will easily double the final price....it's due to the amount of labour involved.

You can get a K03"S" replacement or an E05 which will give around 280bhp. Bear in mind though the E05 will require new oil pipes for turbo, 4BAR FPR, remap....it would also be wise to get a FMIC.

you can get garrett eliminator kits which are modified gt28's and the like that bolt straight onto the stock manifold and downpipe, they don't have the same peak output as an original due to restrictions in the manifold etc but are still about £1300 just to buy so after fitting and mapping you'll be around 2k

If i got a gt28, what sort of bhp increase should i see??

depends on what other work you were to do really, better down pipe? sports cat? cat back system? fmic? better intake? bigger injectors? head work?

doind just the turbo alone may see you to about 275bhp maybe but i don't think anyone on here has ever done 'just' the turbo, and if that was the end power then it would be easier to get a 225bhp block from the TT/S3/LCR fit it and get it remapped ;)

Anybody ever hear of a company called xspower, they are selling uprated turbo kits and manifolds for about 800 dollers shipped, you have a choice od a t3 or t4 turbo. Any Ideas?

Apart from an E05....I don't think there are any just bolt on turbos....as a minimum you'll need a remap and to sort out new oil lines.

You'll also probably need a new TIP.

IMHO if you in search of power then you've got to do it properly.....taking short cuts will only lead to tears later.

Having a straight bolt on will probably give you in the region of 280bhp.

E05 is a good compromise BUT...if you run silly amounts of boost they will go pop.

My IHI runs between 0.7bar and 1.35bar....well within it's limits.

the garrett eliminator kits are a direct bolt on, uses stock manifold, downpipe and intake with a reducer.

made by ATP :)

see here

Just make sure that if you are buying a kit from the us or similar that the manifold is correct as LHD ones won't fit RHD cars from what i hear:thumbup:

Cheers will do. It looks like a good deal though. Whats everyone think??

APR do a K04 kit (not the same turbo as TT225 turbo) Fitted is £1600. Gives 245bhp. Think the stock injectors are good for 250bhp. After that they need changing.

Cheers but at the price of the kit above I may buy it and do the fitting myself. Does it look like this is the right one and does it look any good??

best of luck, not a job i'd have a go at.

Ahh a car or bike is just like a big jigsaw. Take your time and all should be fine, if not have a mate on hand.

Not a straight fit. Dont know whats needed but its not a bolt on.

the K04 from a TT would need all the manifold and boost pipe work from the TT atleast too, downpipe aswell as its all different. cat is different aswell if i remember right.
