What is the state of software in late 2023?

Any idea if I can insist it’s done at the dealership rather than OTA.

I'm not sure you can insist that the infotainment is upgraded as I believe they have to carry out their own investigation. I told them my infotainment was constantly restarting and also supplied a copy of the TPI document suggesting others owners had found it had fixed the issue. When I got the car back today they said that TPI did not apply to my car, but another did, and that also directed them to install 1941. They commented it was a huge update at 16GB in size.

Hi JamesK

You are right. When I phoned, the service department told me that the ‘Big’ OTA is being rolled out by chassis number. They have no control over the timing but say if they find the reference for my car on their database and find it has not installed - then they’ll do it. I told them that 1941 was reportedly 9Gb However they say the OTAs are proceeding ‘Fine’. 16Gb you report is huge!

They assure me that they will install it after warranty if I have not received it OTA (🤞). They also want to sell me a 2 year extended warranty for £840 over 24 months.

At my MOT tomorrow they say they will “Check the optics” to verify that my infotainment is in the right state to receive OTA updates.

Q. What does ‘TPI’ stand for and how can I obtain a copy of the one referring to SW 1941?

Thanks

the TPI number is: 2069590. The dealer told me today this TPI didn't apply to my VIN, and they found another TPI which did apply to my VIN, and that also recommended applying the 1941 update.

Here's a link to the forum post which contains the TPI to download: Link to forum post

Anyway, I think if you tell me the infotainment system is restarting multiple times, and reference the TPI in the forum post above as a friendly nudge I suspect they'll put you on 1941.

Thank you JamesK that is really useful info and i shall act upon it👍

But interestingly JamesK

It seems dealers can apply 1941 At their discretion and that it is not unavailable until scheduled according to chassis number. They made no mention of this but I shall chase this up.

Thank you

Yesterday I called Skoda Service who notified Skoda Technical of my ongoing restart issue. I also spoke to my Service partner about the restart issue before the car went in for its first MOT this morning. I don’t know if what followed was as a result of these conversations:

I received a phone call after the MOT was complete to say they had found two SW updated which they had now applied. They told me that the ‘Big’ pending SW update scheduled by chassis number, for all cars involved would still go ahead….OTA.

To my surprise when the car was returned I discover that the Infotainment has been updated from 1896 to 1941 and so far all seems well.

So it remains to be seen what the ‘Big’ pending OTA update is intended to do.

That good to hear @PoloPaul; hope 1941 continues to do the biz for you.

👍

Since  SW 1941 was installed last week functionality is vastly improved - no restarts so far.

The one issue that appears to remain unresolved is the ‘Units’ in Navigation. My maps are still on Km. I have noticed several posting on Briskoda about this but with no solution.

I have imperial units selected in ‘Settings’ but the SatNav remains in Km.

SW 1941 has not eliminated this. Is there a fix for this fault?

Thanks

Try updating the maps from the Skoda update portal

There is a fix. By that I mean that mine was fixed - almost exactly two years ago (3rd September 2021) after it had been at the dealers for 20 weeks!

You may be aware of the long and at times acrimonious KPH/MPH thread in which this was discussed in painful detail. I posted details of the fix applied to my vehicle, which at the time, was a test (as in my car was the first in UK to get it applied). Link below.

I was led to believe that the fix would be rolled out to all other early (SEL FE?) vehicles but it would appear not.

Hi TheWanderer

Mk4 Octavia Columbus does not have an SD slot in the glove compartment. I believe that all updates are OTA or through dealer. Is it possible to manually update navigation on Octavia Mk4 another way?

Thanks

@PoloPaul, Just replace SD card with USB stick in the Instructions and you are good to go.

Good luck

Hi djmartzian

The USB slots on my Mk4 are USB C (smaller) Is there a USB A/B slot somewhere or do I need an adapter?

@PoloPaul, You have 2 options:

1. Buy an USB type-C stick which is pretty chep, ~4£ in my country.

2. Buy an USB typeA to typeC adapter to use the normal USB stick, pretty chep also.

Cheers

That was actually supplied with my car, just had to dig deeper in the trunk to find it. Worth checking.

I have a USB A to USB C adapter. USB stick I can get no problem. However Skoda Portal says all Octavia 4 with Columbus in UK are OTA only. for Navigation Updates. Currently 22.4.

Just investigated further OTA is only if you have an annually renewable subscription (£44) for Infotainment online. So thanks for the tip and I will get on with USB C Pen-drive update. Thanks

If you look carefully you can get a double pack, have one for firmware and the other for your music & radio station logos

Thanks for the tip TheWanderer. Will do. Am I correct in assuming  that once the file is on the USB stick I just leave it in the USB C slot and await a long journey so the technology can do its thing ?

Thanks TheWanderer - will do 👍
