Octavia VRS TSI clunking sound.

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Noticed only yesterday while driving with windows open that when going at low speed for example through slow bumps or potholes there is a clunking sound coming from front wheels. It sounds like some loose metal or smth like that. No sound when windows closed. Im pretty sure i heard it when the car was new didn’t that into account. Anyone else noticed that? I booked at a dealer to have a look at that. Car has only 35k kms and never seen any dirt roads or smth like that and roads are pretty good where i live.

When I had my first MK4 the dealer had not removed the shipping blocks from the front suspension under the rubber gaiters. When I went over a pothole one of them broke and that made a sound similar to what you describe. Dealer removed them from both sides and all was good. I appreciate its a long shot since you covered 35K kms but maybe worth checking.

So been at a dealer and apparently it is DSG and its “normal” 🤪

Only 'normal' with the noisy ones.  Did they have an abnormally non clunky one for you to roadtest?

What is normal is they either 'all do that'  or 'never heard of that before'.

Hi guys i recently purchased the Oct/vrs & from new the front has been way to hard. Even in comfort its only the rear that seems to be ok but not the front.

Saturday i drove the car & a banging/knock noise came from the front damper section? After just driving over a small bump..

In reading some posts the transport blocks scenario not being removed definitely seem to be apparent?

Going to get the Skoda garage to take a look, just wondered how long it would take to get these removed roughly if you had yours done.

Another thing ive noticed is the front dampers hardly move when going over a bump even when put on Comfort etc.

Literally 5 mins if that. Once on the ramp they lift the gaiter and pull it out.
