  • M3 LR Highland achieved 4.5 mi/kWh. Merc EQC said to average 2.4 mi/kWh in the drive back. I'd estimate my MY LR would average 3.5 - 4 mi/kWh. 9c is not that cold, I was getting around 270 W

  • How about a few more superchargers on the Silk Road  and the odd windmill, maybe that would be a greener way to get them here.   They'd have to reset the odometers though that can be done at

Not building 1,000 or so a week might do them no harm if the supply he as been greater than demand and they keep selling cheaper to get cars shifted.  Maybe there is a waiting list though and people will just need to wait longer if there is.   Knowing how Tesla really do things is hard to know from media articles or social media.

The Shanghai plant supplies UK. The Berlin plan doesn't do RHD cars 😞

Ahhhh great. Ship them on RoRos half way around the world burning 000s of tonnes of heavy fuel oil. Makes perfect sense

@Lee Wonder what you have to say on the boat loads of 2nd hand  cars ( Mostly VW & Jap brands )  that are shipped from Japland for sale in Rep of Irl  ... 😃

Much of muchness. General consciences seems to be that Shanghai and Berlin cars build quality are both very good, but German paint shop is best out of all Tesla plants.

For battery, the Model Y RWD out of Berlin get BYD blade LFP battery whereas Shanghai built RWD cards are still CATL LFP. For LR AWD, both use exact same battery.

The only advantage is for Tesla to be able to sell more cars with lower labour cost and more uniform production for all other plants. All RHD cars everywhere around the world comes from Shanghai plant.

My new company do Tesla transportation ie CMA, so I will interested to see the movements of cars from China to Europe. Wish they were a bit fuller going the other way sadly.

Good seeing driving in what might be common weather conditions, traffic etc even if not done in the UK.

That's a great addition. (good demo around 12:10)

In 2022-2023 AP would plow through the corner and dangerously go wide. Last year or so, it would tap the brakes as it begins to go wide, which is still very dangerous but at least puts the driver on alert and will knock it off.

I was talking about robotaxi with someone who doesn't own Tesla but bought into their vision. I still don't believe we are anywhere close here to 100% autonomy here in UK. The biggest problem is narrow streets and parked cars, where AP would panic and often unnecessarily hit the brakes.

Case in point:  (the clip in Scottish Highlands)

The huge problem in the UK is surely loss at any locations all kinds of signals and reception, GPS, Mobile phones / sims, digital radio and even analogue where it still exists.

I get what you mean. In Skye, there were once where the location wasn't what we thought and trying to find next stop with phone proved difficult due to poor mobile signal. Luckily my car had some signal and I was able to navigate to the next stop.

For autonomous driving, I'm pretty sure the actual compute will be local inside the vehicle, don't need mobile signal. In Tesla's case, they have yet to unlock full capability of their HW4 processor. Everything still runs on HW3 whilst HW4 is said to be ~4x faster in AI tasks.

I've been playing with AI models recently using Ollama and nvidia AI playground, there's impressive models that can be run locally. I've also got iPhone 16 and enabled Apple Intelligence by switching language to US. It all works very well without internet connection.

There is areas within 30 miles of where Just get a Tesla is where there is no Mobile reception, Digital Radio, & the Sat Nav disappears.

A total PITA when the phone keeps dropping out etc.

Hopeless not only in winter time.

Even reception to EV chargers sims is pathetic, or trying to call a help line. Tomintoul probably the worst.

I like what he bought as a replacement.

There are plenty of areas near where I live in Wiltshire with NO mobile data reception, even the large new housing estate where I live has reception so poor that phones revert to WiFi Calling for voice calls!

In the UK relying on mobile coverage for driverless vehicle operation is insane with so many not spots and areas of inconsistent mobile coverage. IMHO a pre-condition of allowing driverless vehicles needs to be decent reliable 4G/5G coverage.

Just because autonomous vehicles is advertised as an use-case for 5G, does not mean it is a pre-requisite.

Pretty much all non-school-project autonomous driving vehicles currently around, from Tesla's FSD to Chinese LIDAR vehicles to Google's Waymo, all have their autonomous driving decisions made locally within the vehicle.

The accident I posted earlier in the thread has absolutely zero to do with mobile signals. The AI model is running locally.

Surely a good thing if lots of people are really getting shot of their Tesla or their rented Tesla.

More used bargains to chose from maybe.

Just buy a good one and do not pay too much if there are plenty to choose from.

Or a Model S, but still cheap running and comfort.
