Going back to standard

Featured Replies

Yep, totally hacked off with it now.

It's quick, when it runs right. Ive snapped my Blueflame exhaust twice now, and they won't repair it again until I get uprated engine mounts.

Turbo keeps cutting off boost at higher revs, and its really annoying, not to mention the effect on performance.

So, at the earliest time I get, the oem exhaust is going back on, the standard map put back in, and the car sold, because as a standard car, a waste of space outside my door to be honest. Handles well, stops well, and a nice drive. Not what i'd describe as a performance car feel to it. Dull to drive in fact.

Practical - yes.

Exciting - no.

Next?......

Subaru Impreza.......

Lucky you kept the Fabia then.....

:P

Subaru Impreza.......[/b']

Maybe said in jest, but i will be seeking exciting next, with practical as a bonus, and i do like the new shape impreza.

Thought both your cars were standard anyway

Cant be as exciting as the PURPLE 1.2 HTP Fabia Estate I'm currently driving while my vRS is off the road, its the slowest car I've ever driven.

0-60 in 19 seconds.

Not in jest, Dave, I were looking at getting a new WRX 2.5 recently but the cost of insurance puts me off.

A man of your means should surely be able to safely stow a 2.5 WRX STI int garage no problems.

(Please get a black one though. The WRC blue is just so common)

Good luck in your quest for satisfaction though.

EVO's are just too needy IMHO.

Focus ST?

130i?

old-style M5, RS4/6 S4 2.7 bi turbo....

list is quite endless round the 18-20k price range ;)

Yes, evo's. mate has a vii, and its a nice car. Its an import, and devastatingly quick, but i couldnt do a journey in it. eg a ring trip would require new teeth at least, and a service on the way back.

Subaru bit more livable with imo, if not a bit common.

Ill be keeping the fabia still, so maybe a caterham type thing? who knows. im so dissapointed with the Octavia, id even swap it for a superb at the moment.

maybe sell both skuds, and get a used m5. Car limboland again. :(

Whos map is it?

Considered an MR2? Not the fastest thing on earth (what is?) but does make for a challenging and rewarding drive without breaking the bank.

Chris

Shifty Taylor in an MR2?

I think he would rather catch a bus! (tis not my opinion btw, I think they are FAB cars, especially in black ;) )

That's a shame the motor has to go. Won't you lose a shed of money on it though? That's even before you consider depreciation and dare I say it, didn't you say you'd lost your warranty on the car too. That won't help its value i'm sure.

I mean is the car really that bad in standard guise?

What's the Accord R like these days? Used to be quite a hot car.

sorry to hear about your probs with the car Shifty ,will you be getting your new car before the Ring trip ?

Dissapointed to hear that considering that you have been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved by modding the new Octy vRS. Are you sure this isn't another knee jerk reaction?, those problems you describe seem to be relatively easy to remedy and to achieve the ultimate was never going to be plain sailing was it?.

My advice, for what it's worth, is to stick with it and the beaming smiles will be sure to return, a little patience and a bucket load of cash is all that's needed :D:thumbup:

As the same with any "new" chassis/platform it will be a while before uprated parts become available... sure they could be solved, but it would be a lot of work + cash pursuading manufacturers to develop uprated parts..

was the same situation with the fabia RS when that was first released.

Not much patience these days, and even less buckets of cash. Its the constantly blowing exhaust and the cutting out thats doing my head in.

I need to spend cash on uprated engine mounts, if anyone makes them. I need to then get my flexi on the exhaust repaired at blueflame. Then, i need to patiently wait for the faulty part in the turbo to not be on back order, then get it fitted. Then, whats going to blow next.

I also need to spend 3k or more on the Fabia. One has to go, and i know which one makes me smile the most.

Having slept on it now, im thinking of a top of the range Superb v6 tdi auto. Then I can waft around in a stress free zone.

That, and an old land rover for some green laning at weekends. Fast cars and women = stress.

How about keep the furby, and a little Smart Roadster.

I love the furby for its practicality, and have good access to a roadie.

It is shed loads of fun to drive around twisties, In this glorious weather, retract the roof, take out the roof bars & stow them on the front boot you get miles of :D. Also it really does turn heads. You can still use it in the winter, roof down heater on full blowing down onto your feet, a nice combination of warmth & fresh air :).

Interesting idea. I may test drive one this week

Your welcome to try the MR2 if your ever down this way.

Shame about your car mate, pulled like a train

Like the idea of wafting in a Superb V6 Tdi Auto, Very relaxing

Keep the Fabia for Sunday morning blasts to clear the head.

Although an old Landie, Seems like fun have a look on here,

Waft around! pmsl! Superbs make you drive like an old man!...oh wait...:o hehe!

aww i think you should keep the Octy...:( it's so nice and big and comfy! you just sorta disappear into it when you get in! :D

If you're really disappointed with the Octy, I'd be inclined to book some 24 hour test drives of some other cars to see what really suits you.

The thing with getting a seriously quick car is that you are into modding your car. If you get, say a Subaru and you fancy taking it to the next level then that opens a whole new can of worms in terms of spunking cash on modifications, as the mods to an already fast car cost way more than those to a Skud.

If you're after a roadster, and you can get a decent 2nd hand one, then the Boxster has to be on your list.

Used previous shape M3's are now within your means as well. Even the CSL can be snapped up circa

I've got a lovely white 53 plate PD130 with only 110k on the clock and sat nav if you fancy a straight swap :D

Well, you cant blame a guy for trying ;)
