Otavia 2018 vrs towbar

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a towbar fitted to their octavia. Ive been reluctant to fit one since buying the car but i think im going to have to get it done

I was initially holding out for an electric folding one but hard to find. Skoda informed this used one would not be compatible

On my volvo s40 I had years ago i fitter a witter detachable towbar and bought genuine electrics from volvo. Great job until the towbar seized and was therefore no longer detachable.

Im hoping to get a detachable one again and maybe this time i can oil it or whatever it takes to stop it seizing. Any tips much appreciated

In regards to electrics what's the best way to go about wiring for a towbar on a Skoda?

I have a Westfalia detachable on my 2018 vRS estate with the electrics that beep with the indicator - yes shock horror! But it'all been fine for well over 3 years. I always remove the tow ball after a caravan trip and clean / lubricate as necessary maybe twice a year.

The part you've link looks to be for a MK4 despite the description.

Accessories brochure list this part numbers for a MK3:

Get the proper kit, wire it as per the instructions and then have it coded. That way it'll integrate properly with the rest of the car :)

I also the westfalia detachable on my 2014 hatch, though made the error of not detaching it for years, and now it's non detachable without getting very forceful! Use it regular though, so I'm not that bothered.

I wired it, and coded it myself using obd11 with no issues at all.

What wiring kit did you use?

Apologies, I got the witter kit, not westfalia. My email archive reminded me!

That code is for my car that didn't have trailer prep. Your car might have trailer prep. Check your build sticker for the code, second code for me was 1D0 - without trailer hitch.

Just meant I needed to wire back to the passenger side fuse box, and into one of the wiring harness plugs on that side. The instructions were very detailed for the wiring, then got the OBD11 info from here somewhere.

Where the build sticker, ive can only see a sticker showing my Vin number when i open driver door

Pretty certain that a 2018 won't have a build sticker but it it does it'll be in the boot by the spare wheel.  If it doesn't have one you can check the build options via the chat option on the skoda website if you have your vin number.

Waited two weeks for this response lol.

Is there any other way i can check, perhaps there will be a fuse installed for it but i can track the cabling somehow Screenshot_20231019_203431_com.google.android_gm.thumb.jpg.98feffcd6226ecf8c0764225ddbc73f1.jpg

Just ask via the chat box on the Skoda web page...   They'll need your vin to check.  That's what I did

No my code is 1D0 so no trailer wiring prep

Im ready to order a detachable Oris towbar from PF Jones, i want to order the specific wiring but does that i mean i need extra wiring to go back to passenger fuse box?

Yes - 1D0 means there is no factory wiring fitted :)

You can double check by grabbing a torch and verifying that fuse positions 22, 28, 38 and 44 don't have both terminals fitted:
