Exhaust help!

Featured Replies

I’ve gotten bored of quiet and mundane stock exhaust on my Fabia vRS mk1.

I want to buy a Darkside Developments 2.5” stainless steel downpipe.

has anyone ran this downpipe and kept the rest standard?

thank you for your time!

many thanks,

Shad

So you're gonna spunk £250 on a pointless mod and delete the cat because you're bored?

Deleting the cat on a turbodiesel does nothing except fail the next MOT if the tester spots it.

What would you suggest instead?
My mate decatted his PD130 and got a nice turbo dump when he shifts.

I’ll put the cat back on for MOT

cheers,

Shad

I don't know how you expect to get a wastegate sound when the PD doesn't even have a wastegate, you can't get a dump valve sound because a turbodiesel doesn't have a throttle either.

Basically you can't get the sound effects of a petrol turbo because the engine doesn't even work the same way.

Some people managed to get induction noise by fitting a Honda S2000 air filter in place of the standard air box, other people performed a mufflerectomy to get it to roar like a tractor, neither of these mods will fail an MOT and both are a lot cheaper.

Ok I’ll look into the muflerectomy and S2k air filter!

My mate said it’s to do with the Vanes in the turbo which allow the distinctive “owl” noise

thats my aim!

Many thanks,

Shad

The mufflerectomy releases the owl without murdering the cat!

I can't believe how stupid this sounds, it's like a quote from some sort of demented Bill Bailey gig.

Why can't you just make the sounds with your mouth?

Brrrrm, psssh! Brrrrm, psssht! Too-wit-too-woo...

Etc.

You can get a little Chinese electronic box that makes the owl noise every time you lift off the throttle 😆

Blimey, what is this forum turning into.I would prefer lots of VERY quiet power.I just can’t see the point in attracting attention.

Same here...   There a young lad near us with a 1.0 Peugeot 106 with a straight through massive exhaust on it that is stupidly loud and would never pass a noise check.  I've spoken to him about it and that it's very annoying for neighbours but he's not bothered.  He will get reported and pulled at some stage though for it.

What's amusing though is that he's clearly got a filter on it as well and in combination has wrecked the tuned length of of the intake and exhaust so the power is well down from a low starting point as it struggles like hell up the hill past our house.  He doesn't recognise that though...   Oh to be young and stupid again!

Mike and his monkey spunk moped?

Might have been Finbar Saunders, phnaar phnaar!

Yep come to think of it I think it was.

I don't know if the OP, knows, but changing the exhaust and air filter on a stock vRS does not make any performance gains at all. They only make the car produce a different (and louder) sound.  It may only make a slight difference if once done the car is remapped to optimise the extra air flow and reduced back pressure.
