Superb 272 Stage 1 experience

Thank you.

If you mean size, I am running 235/40. Was thinking about getting 235/35, but did not want to get that low profile, so I went for a higher profile and I think the comfort should be a little bit better on the 40 as well, unless I am mistaken.

I do not have DCC, standard shocks.

On another note, the car goes really well with fall tones.

Ok thanks. I would have thought the 235 width would have looked a little more stretched on the 8.5s than they do

in the pics.

  • Could be that that tyre was just bad in that size or just bad batch in general and I got unlucky. Once my Hankooks wear out, I might try 245 again, since I do like it when it is a bit wider. 10mm not

  • I can vouch for the TVS full package. Dsg stage 2 plus and the stage 2 as they call it map. Mapped to run 98 octane. It’s bloody quick and smooth. 380bhp 550nm  RL turbo elbow, muffler delete, coil

That seems proper fast, though I do not feel like mine is very slow either. Guess TVS is just better 😅. As far as mods go, the only differences I can see are muffler delete, coil packs, GFB dv+ , which I have not done. Don't know if these would add up to such a big difference, more likely for it to be the tune.

They would look stretched with a 35 profile. I guess it also comes down to the make of the specific tyre, some are more stretched than others. If I remember correctly, I actually have 2 different tyres in the pictures, I will post below.

Here if I am not mistaken, I should have 245/40/R19 Sailun Atrezzos that I was trying out, since I read a lot of people run 245-s on their superbs. For me it did not work out, not sure if it was the tyre or the size or the combination of both, but I got vibrations in the car. When swapping over to the Hankooks later, everything was fine.

Hmmmmm. I’ve just bought 245/40/R19 tyres and about to bite the bullet on some new 8.5 inch wide rims so I hope my tyres don’t create vibrations.

I've been running 245/40/19 tyres for 2 yrs plus with no issues or vibrations.

Plenty of others have been using the same size tyres too with no problems.

It might just have been the particular tyre I got and you could be fine.

Yes, your car was also one of the reason why I wanted to try 245 myself. What make and model tyre are you running, just wondering?

Same I'm running Continental Sport Contact 7 245/40ZR19 , they are currently on 19" Vega's, which I believe are 8" wide. No vibrations or anything, really great tyres.

i've got the ContiMaxContact6 (MC6).

its on the factory 19x8 Skoda Trinity rims.

also with 12mm hub-centric spacers at the front, and 10mm at the rear.

Excellent tune and mods. I always fancied a stage 1 tune but that feeling is occasionally repressed when I floor my stock 280 time to time. It is quick enough as it is. 😆

I agree with you that the stock superb is already very fast, but the feeling you get with stage1 vs stock is.. pretty significant. Especially so when you consider you dont really NEED any mods for stage1, its just extra. For me the intake is more for the sounds, love the noise it makes under boost. Intercooler is just to keep the IAT lower, car should put up with more that way. But those arent a necessity.

But I guess the biggest difference you feel with stage1 is the torque.. going from 350nM to 540nM is.. a big increase. 😅 I've taken people on rides who are used to driving like 150bhp or lower cars with very low torque and they say they get dizzy and sick when I floor it. 😅 Though I do not feel sick, even when I am in the passenger seat. 🤷‍♂️

All about the torque being flat from 2.5-3k really helps with mid range times

Yeah, I guess. I havent been on dyno either, so I dont know my exact figures.

Also, I am not sure but I might have a small boost leak somewhere, not sure how much it would impact the performance though, since I am already getting good times. Why I think that is because of a kind of a whistle or I am actually not sure how to best describe it, maybe like a very long beep (until it swaps gears), but it starts at around 5000 rpm and stays until redline/gear change. I was told that maybe it could be the diverter valve, but I am not sure if that could be making that noise on max boost if there is a leak.

Boost leak noise would come in around 3k I’d have thought as that’s where max boost will hit. Might not be divert or valve but it’s certainly worth upgrading to gfb’s new one T9381. for the sake of 150 ish euro/pounds.

I am actually not sure what that noise is, but it starts at 5k for me.. asked several mechanics and they have no clue. Havent gone to the tuner since that would be a 130km drive for me.

Anyway on another note, finally got exhaust tips painted black, looks a lot better now I think.

Since I cannot post here (apparently I am capped on data or w/e) here is an imgur link.

So I'm about to Stage 1 my Superb Mk3 Sportline (280) Wagon.  Thought I'd do some pre-map dragy runs and noticed my stock car is a little slower than quoted 0-100 km/hr runs.  For my particular model car I've found these times on the internet (0-100km/hr - 5.7 seconds):

https://accelerationtimes.com/models/skoda-superb-combi-2-0-tsi

Based on two runs with dragy without launch control my quickest 0-100km/hr time was 6.34 sec.  2nd run was 6.45 sec.  I'll try over the next couple of days for lower ambient air temps combined with launch control to see if I can at least get sub 6s.

Should I be concerned that I'm currently some 0.6s off the quoted stock time?

I did not measure any times without launch control, so not sure what my times would’ve been, but it makes a huge difference if you launch control or not. I am fairly sure the quoted times are with launch control as well. In my case factory stated was 5.5 and I got 5.18 so all good there.

5.18 stock?  And are these 0-60mph or 0-100kmh?

edit: just saw your original post so stock 0-100. Damn impressive. So your stock is 1.2 sec faster than mine!!  Geezus. Can you post your dragy graph for your stock 5.18 please. I notice in your Stage 2 tune graphs you’re pulling 1g for way longer than I am in stock. Only

got to 1g very briefly in my stock run.

what stock HP and Torque does your GPF engine generate?

Yeah, but that was with launch control. I will have to see if I can somehow access the stock dragys, I still had my old phone when I got the logs from my friend whose dragy I used. Will look into it.

Stock was 272hp and 350nm.

So in theory my stock is 280hp and 350 Nm so there's clearly something wrong with my car if my LC runs don't get sub 6's!!!

In your previous post you said you got 6.3 without launch control which.. seems normal? With LC that should be below 6.

Yes but that (say 5.9s) would still be a long way off your 5.2s!!!

Is yours the older 280 with 6speed DSG or the newer 280 with 7speed? I have the 7speed, not sure if that makes a difference. Also mine is a hatch, so a small weight difference. Speaking of, how much fuel did you have during your dragy run? I had less than a quarter of a tank, that also makes a difference, since weight savings.

Also managed to get stock dragys for you.

Don's assume it would be 5.9s, it will be less than that, bellow 5.5s. So do not panic! :)

Stage1 goes bellow 4.5s, but without LC it goes above 5s (5.4s I think).

LC makes a huge difference, there is big delay of power delivery in 1st gear without LC.

7 speed is also faster than 6 speed dsg.
Standard car will do 5.1s - 5.4s to 100 km/h.

Weight is also important (equipment and fuel). With 3 more people mine goes from 4.4 to 5.1 for Stage 1.
Golf goes bellow 4s in Stage1, but it is 200kg lighter.

I have the 6 speed but I can’t imagine that would make that much difference. I had about 1/3rd of a tank. I see you did your 5.18 in 8 deg. That would def help.

but you’re def pulling a longer time

of 1g which must be helped by launch control. Speaking of which when you activate launch control does it say launch control has been activated on the dash display?  Also I always have start/stop deactivated so do I still have to press it to activate launch control?  Because obviously if I press it to activate launch control the engine then turns off as I always have it deactivated.

Ok thanks. I was the only occupant in the car and had about 1/3rd a tank of fuel.

Just another question. If the dragy device is inside the car how the hell does it know the outside ambient air temp?
