Does anyone on here know about ADT alarms?

We've just completed the purchase of our house and it has an ADT alarm fitted. There is an option to "part set" the system which, I assume means the door sensors will be on but the PIR's won't be ? I dont really want to find out the hard/noisy way by leaving the dog in the house after part setting the system.

Also, ADT offer a service for

If the ADT 'part set' is anything like some others I have seen it's up to the person who has the alarm installed what part set is. The only way to find out would be to ask the previous owner, ask ADT if they have records or get it set to what you want.

Obviously this may cost a little.

As for the 8 minutes, who knows, but better that somebody is there than not, however false alarms will get expensive for you.

Goochie,

If you have good neighbours , particularly older ones, who are usually in during the day you are better off having a nice chat with them, giving them your mobile number and possibly a key/alarm code if you are really sure.

That way if the alarm goes off, they can ring you and you can check it yourself, as long as you don't work too far away.

The monitored ones are fine but it can take ages for the alarm company to even get through to the police, let alone have someone arrive at the house. The police got so inundated with these monitored alarms going off that they changed the "rules". Now, two zones need to be triggered for it to go through to them - one is not enough.

8 minutes sounds optimistic to me. Save yourself the money if you can and make friends with your new neighbours.

Our part set and be configured to which ever zones you want to be set.

We have the garage, front door and back door and downstairs PIR's set on a night setting which we set when we go to bed.

Part set is usually just downstairs, but why dont you place a person in a room at a time and figure out which are turned on when you part set the alarm.

The best use for part set as Lummox says is for night time use. In our case the part set disables all detection upstairs. At night we set the alarm from a 2nd keypad upstairs and the part set has no entry exit delay noise to waken the kids.

As for monitoring, I have a Pyronix vocaliser autodialer. This will ring 4 separate numbers in the event of system activation including my mobile. It then plays back a recorded message according to the type of activation alarm/distress/fire. It keeps ringing all numbers until each phone is answered and the person receiving the call acknowledges it using their phone keypad.

I live in NI and my house for a while was a would-be vantage point for terrorists (yes it's true). With this in mind I kinda went over the top on the intruder alarm. We have 'silent' distress via panic buttons in various locations. When activated, the pyronix dials out over a premicell mobile line (as my BT and or NTL lines are exposed outside the house and therefore can be cut). The pyronix also monitors the premicell. Any loss of service activates the alarm too.

ADT use top notch gear but their reputation for customer service has been suffering lately. They tend to bag the contract, do the install and then worry about resources to adequately provide support.

Response time 8 mins! Don't make me laugh. You'll get a pizza delivered quicker than the time it takes the cops to arrive.

It's just a pity that in this day and age you have to have an alarm. What is the world coming to.............Pity you can't just shoot the barstuards...

Actually my dad did one time. Shot some scumbag's ear off after he broke into our shop for the 18th time in a year. It was so funny but they confiscated my dads gun after that. :(

Bad shot............Should have been between the eyes

I'm a gadget freak too. That helped.

Now that's just silly. I mean a living room doesnt lend itself well to lasers with all that furniture getting in the way. Mine are in the hall

Thanks for the advice  I shant say which way we're going on here - for obvious reasons ;)

:) You might find that ADT will have put an Enginneer reset into the panel and if it activates you will then have to call then out (for a fee !) I personally wouldn't have the monitoring unless you were in a high risk area and your insurance were insisting on a monitored alarm system, if standard PIR detectors are used then they will pick up the dog in the room, but you can change the lens on the PIR for pet ones. As for part set then that would be programmable in the panel, hope this helps-Stuart.

but some pets are too large for that type of pir (the maximum allowed is usually around 20-25Kg-pet weight i mean) so dependant on the dog this may not be possible - i know coz i got a german shepherd. Mind you with having her now i dont really need to use my house alarm :D as she is usually in the back garden taking care of things
