Timing belt kit

Featured Replies

Hi   I'm located in Australia.  I have a 2012 Superb Wagon.  It's a 125kw diesel, engine code CFGB.  It's due for a timing belt replacement.

I'm after advice on whether it needs a water pump replacement at the same time?

Also, advice on timing belt kit brands.  I can get Gates, Dayco, SKF and various others.  Any advice appreciated

It makes sense to get the water pump changed while the mechanic is in that area. I think it might even be mentioned in the service schedule. Good time also to change the belt tensioner.

In our workshops we only fit genuine kits and pumps as we like the peace of mind the warranty gives but I have heard that in OZ genuine parts are hard to get and the price hurts. Don’t forget though that there are a number of fasteners which are one time only TTY and these are usually only available genuine. The kit for a CFGB engine is 03L 198 119 F and is expensive here at £287.28 so probably in excess of $500AUS. The SKF and Dayco kits are very comprehensive and come with both designs of tensioner stud.
