Oil and Service light early?

Featured Replies

So I brought a used car which had Skoda services from New (3 services) . It then went to a private individual who serviced it once a year (completely understand the dangers of this and how it isnt advised and also the reasons why, but that's another story!)

Anyway it was serviced (by the selling garage) at 60k. Just an oil and filter. 6k later the "oil change service 20 days " sign has come up. Guessing all out of sync and message not updated / cleared.

From what I see (and ideally want) is it was on yearly servicing. I'll probably do around 15k a year and would like to service once a year, traditionally I'm used to a big service little service rotation but aware it's all a bit different to that.

My question, will an independent garage be able to reset so my warning comes on once a year? Or is this really not advised and should I follow the Skoda schedule, if so how do I find that out?!

Also what's inspection service and oil change, is it as obvious as it sounds!?!

Thanks

Had this car done 20,000 miles a year then, so on Variable Servicing as it will have left the factory?

Was this 60,000 miles the 4th Oil change?

There is no Inspection Service,  that should be just set as at the same time as the Oil Service.   That is a OIl & Inspection SErvice.

So if fixed regime @ 372 days /9,400 miles.  If on Flexible 24 months, 18,000-20,000 miles, & not with an 'Inspection service' at 12 months.

What engine have you got?

If the Garage has the equipment to plug in and know how to use it they can set whatever they need to, and if they can not then really best not use them.

No idea what you think the Skoda Schedule is, other than Fixed or Variable / Flexible service intervals.    (There is no Inspection.)

......................

The 3rd down chart is how it used to be, and the bottom one their idea of fixed servicing.

Not all DSG,s are at 40,000, some are no oil changes and some are at 80,000 and none are @ 4 years they are by miles.

Hey,

Sorry a bit more info, it's 2014 2.0 Litre Diesel VRS Estate.

That bottom chart is probably what I'd like to follow and do yearly, the lack of service history makes it hard to tell what it's had done I will grab the info tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks for your help so far!

By the way... This is what it say in the service section....

They never reset the Oil Service indicator then @ 60,000 miles.

If the correct oil was used which was VW504 00 / 507 00 so 5w 30 FS III it is long life oil so ok for 24 months, 18,000-20,000 miles.

It needs plugged in to reset unless someone knows better.

I can't be sure on the oil, paperwork states oil change! Again not a dealer. So those two figures should read the same yes?

I've done 6k in it, yet the inspection is telling me to wait over 2 years??

Can't I just set them both to remind me in 1 year!?! That way I'll know I get a service reminder once a year, that would be ideal. The I could follow the last table you uploaded and do a yearly service?

Yes you can do that if you have a way of doing that, but since it is of Variable / Flexible now i do not think you can do it from the available reset in the car so you need a device or someone with one.

Someone will be along to tell you how.

OK thanks for that. I've got the service info it had....

8k miles 2015 - service interval

24k Miles 2017 - oil change

Then every 1 year had a service in June

With pollen and air changed every other year. So it's not really followed a set schedule!?

Latest service was early this year at 60k with long life oil used just oil and filter.

So ideally just want to change both service counters to remind me yearly early in the year once a year to service!?
