2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9 Ambiente tdi Mk2 for sale - price reduced

Edited: Price reduced as insurance runs out soon.

Regrettably selling my much loved Mk2 estate but have replaced with a Mk1 vRS estate.

Am the second owner having purchased the car in Oct 2016 and used predominantly for work (motorway miles).

Change of job means I now work from home and do far less mileage so have replaced with an Octavia petrol model.

Never had any issues, always starts first time. Last MOT indicated wear on rear brakes (advisory) but not changed. Car was meticulously serviced by first owner but has no service history for this period. I have service history since my ownership.

Car is in good condition, a few age related stone chips and a scratch on the rear panel as shown in photos. Interior a little grubby but mostly water marks / footprint scuffs.

Very good mpg on motorways 65-70mpg, about half this in town depending on length of journey. Regularly get 700+ miles from a tank but never let it go less than 1/4 full. Only filled with branded fuel since purchasing.

Everything works including a/c however being an older diesel, it doesn't kick in until engine is up to temperature.

Lots of handy cubby holes including one hidden in the parcel shelf I use for umbrellas.

Full size spare tyre in boot. Car has 4 matching Michelin Cross Climate all season tyres with good tread - very handy for cold weather / snowy conditions. All 4 fitted in Nov 2018 with fronts replaced in 2022.

Engine bay never been cleaned. The condition shown in the photo's is after 111,120 miles and regular servicing.

Reluctant to sell as she's such a good workhorse but is not being utilised to her full potential and has already been replaced.

Feel free to ask any questions or ask for further details/photos. Price reduced from £2,750 to £2,250
Not ULEZ compliant.

Does this have cruise control usually on the top of the indicator stalk ?

what engine code is it running BKC/BXE?

Any clutch or flywheel work ?

Located in London?
Any cambelt history ?

Unfortunately there is no cruise control on this car.

The engine is BXE.

I've not changed the clutch or cam belt although it has a very strong biting point. I asked my garage when I first bought it about the cam belt as I was concerned and was told it was not needed and the log book suggests it at 150k miles however that's not what Skoda recommend but I trust my garage (I assume they have access to prior history?). Cam belt has not been done in my ownership but I cannot say if it was done prior to October 2016.

I'm currently just inside the M25 near Jct 6, 80 metres inside ULEZ. Annoyingly there is no camera on my road joining the A22 but the majority of my journeys are now short and within the zone. I also work from home now whereas before lockdown I was driving mostly on motorways.

I've attached service history to this post. I am missing one year annoyingly. I have it, just cannot find it right now.

In light of cam belt history, I've reduced my price to £2,400 across all platforms. Will update the main advert however on my phone at the moment so unsure how to do it!

Unfortunately insurance runs out very soon and have just found out the car has qualified for TfL scrappage scheme so regrettably, the car will be scrapped by 4pm today (12th) if I get time or before 4pm tomorrow (13/10/2023) 😔

Do they just buy the car off you for cash or you have to buy another car also ?

From what I can tell, once approved, you take it to a local metals recycling centre with the V5, they issue you a certificate of destruction and issue a cheque - all done within 5 mins. And it's just a payment, no conditions in the letter saying you have to buy anything with it.

I bought a Mk1 vRS estate 2-3 months ago so my Mk2 1.9l has just been sitting outside costing me money in temporary monthly insurance and advertising!

Sounds ideal if you want rid. If they are offering less than you are selling perhaps reducing your price a little might work. Sounds like time against you though. Such a shame looks like a nice workhorse for someone.

It was very unfortunate. I was too busy with work to advertise it sooner (needed cleaning and photographing first) after buying my MK1 so it sat for two months. Then when I had time to advertise, I was under pressure for a quick sale. If I didn't have to renew temporary insurance each month (limited at 3 months plus admin fees each month), eBay every 7-10 days and autotrader every fortnight, I'd have held out at £2,400 as I feel that was more than reasonable. Instead it cost me £180 in temporary insurance and another £100 in advertising for 2 weeks on various sites. I reduced the price from £2750 to £2400 to £2250 although in a short space of time. It would have cost more if I'd held out and for reference, my last car took me 7 months to sell - far outweighing my asking price compared to my charges if I'd held onto it.

I did have one person test drive and they wanted it but I misspoke and said I did 25k miles a year and it was serviced every 12 months. The mistake was that I never drove more than 13k a year but was instead insured for 25k. He wasn't happy with an oil change every 25k but after explaining my mistake, he'd already made up his mind.

Posting this as advice really for anyone who's in the same boat. I had a lot of interest and advert saves at the 3 prices I advertised, but I guess people were holding out or thinking about it and 2 weeks is not long enough to time to make an informed decision. I also had one person message as I was in the recycling centre but it was too late by then. Fyi, although I myself don't always trust eBay for buying cars, that's where I had the most responses and requests for further info. Got two scam emails on Facebook and nothing on autotrader.

She was a workhorse, never faltered, never complained but she's now a cube, probably on her way to China to become the latest iPhone! 😪 I may have a MK1 vRS again but the ambiente surpasses it in terms of steering and brake lightness and effectiveness and comfort features, with the exception of climate control! The MK1 wins on that front! I do miss the cubby holes but appreciate the power!

One slight aside was that as I went to a recycling centre, I got the bonus of scrap value added on in cash to the ulez scheme so I didn't stray too far from my final asking price.

Thanks for all the advice.

Damo 😪

It is sad to see a good working car driven into a scrap yard but it looks like you had many good years of reliable use out of it. I did seriously consider buying this off you but I was looking at £1500 max  and didn’t want to bid so far under your asking price.

Just checked back to see whether it was still available and saw your updates on the ulez scrappage and that is a no brainer if you get £2k plus the scrap value.
