Thinking of coming back to Skoda - Superb Sportline Plus

Featured Replies

Hi all

Used to have a Superb L&K 16 TDi estate 16 plate -  had no real issues with it at all - great car.  Came time to change and I switched to an Audi A6 Avant S Line in early 2021 as I got a good deal on it before the prices of cars went crazy.

The A6 has been good, but I have had a few issues with it - including a dash rattle WAY worse than anything I had with the Superb.  Nice car, but less features and servicing costs are absolutely ridiculous.

Looking around now to change again and I'm very tempted to come back into the Skoda fold.

I particularly like the look of the Superb Sportline Plus but most of the reasonably priced versions seem to be TSi.  I've had diesels for the last 25 years and would like to go back to petrol (sick of adblue and dpf regens!) but I am curious as to the real mpg of the 2.0 TSi mpg.  If I could get an average of 40mpg as per the official blurb I'd be ok with that - is that realistic with normal driving?

There is a brand new Sportline hatch TSi on sale on autotrader for £35k - in moon white which I think looks tremendous - is this a good price?

Also looking at a 72 plate, same spec with 6000 miles on for £30k.  Solid grey which also looks excellent.

Feedback appreciated!

190ps 2.0tsi will do 40mpg easily on the motorway, and more on A roads (50-60mpg). The b-cycle and 7 speed dsg helps a lot.

Don't think you'll get anything like that if doing lots of short journeys.

I got 42mpg (computer) on my 280 6spd 2016 hatch on a run to Germany. The new 190 will be better

I have a 190ps 2.0tsi  that will do 45mpg on motorways at sensible speeds. Unfortunately now  retired most of my  journeys are local urban shortish journeys where I am averaging 32 mpg.

I suppose what your annual mileage will be  and on what roads will answer your question regarding average mpg . Also worth mentioning how quiet the petrol engine is verses the diesel equivalent

If there was a model to come back to, Sportline Plus would def reassure its a good move, and Diesel is def not the no-brainer it used to be. My 280 gets high 30s on a longer run but rarely do I drive with a little spirit so KeteCantek's 42mpg wouldn't be a one-off. Def supports additional eco on the 190. Fingers crossed you.

As for the models, there are 3 I can see; note these are Sportline Plus, but just Sportline. Simpsons Preston, DM Keith Grimsby, RRG Bolton.  Grimsby doesn't have them in stock yet. All are only with £3k off from dealer and £3k off from Skoda on a PCP plan so check the interest rates. £6k isn't to be sniffed at mind you. Annoying that one of them advertises an SD Card reader which, forgive me if I'm wrong, they ditched on the move to MIB3.

My experience with the same engine is very similar. Really good engine in my view.

Thanks for your replies.   Really leaning towards the petrol version.

Current diesel car has a long term average of 45.9 mpg, over 51k miles.  Do about 16k a year, good mix of short and longer journeys.   So low 40s in a petrol shouldn't be too much of an impact.   Petrol generally cheaper to buy too

Will depend on which petrol you buy (1.5 to 2.0 280PS) and the driving profile as to what your mpg could be.

My 272 (the GPF 280) averages about 30 mpg on a mix of roads.

Since mapping to 350bhp, I am at about 28mpg overall but more smiles per gallon.

If babied on A roads or M’way, I can reach 40mpg, but achieving this as an average may be tough with petrol.

Possible with a 1.5 I guess?……

Edited to add:

Just noticed you asked about the 2.0.
190 owners will tell you what they think you can achieve.

As above, with a 272 (or 280), a ~30 mpg average is likely unless you are >50% A road or motorway.

I do the worlds shortest commutes and get an average of 24mpg. On a decent 200 mile run I can get 36, sometimes 38 depending on how light I am with the right foot in Eco everything. And yes, that would include the two or three occasions on that journey when I just can’t help dropping to Sport and surprising the idiot driver as they sit 6 feet from my bumper on the M?, by then flooring it in 3rd…. Byeeeee!

Took delivery of a brand new Sportline plus 190 TSI today- hatch version in meteor grey.

Looks absolutely stunning and first thoughts on the drive are that it all seems nice and firm without being too harsh.  No rattles unlike my previous A6 which buzzed and rattled like a mad thing on rough roads - hopefully stays this way!

The petrol engine sounds and feels great, nice and smooth.  Feels like it wants to go like stink mind you, which I've not done yet!  Virtual cockpit and ambient lights look fabulous as do the animated front and back lights.  Also love the illuminated Skoda projected from the door undersides.

Took it easy on the 55 mile journey back home, a mix of motorway and town driving and got a very respectable 42.8mpg, considering the heating, lights and heated seats were all on!  I know this will dip during town driving and I'm not going to get obsessed with it, but as I said in the OP if i get an overall average of 40ish I'll be quite happy with that.   No more adblue and regens- and a much nicer quieter engine.

I'm really delighted to have adaptive cruise back - had it on my old L&K but didn't have it in the A6.  When I hit traffic tonight, I stuck it on and let the car do the work.  Really missed that.

Thanks to all for your advice on this thread and others, and it's great to be back in the Skoda fold!

The best average I’ve ever had is 37mpg, but had to drive like a Granny to get it, so everything in “E”, coasting whenever it was possible, never going above 70 and taking a week to get there! Full urban I get 25, which is still better than the Missus 2003 2.0 Focus!
