Telephone - Sorry this function is currently unavailable. Please wait...

Featured Replies

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same problem with Bluetooth. Previously my Bluetooth and wireless CarPlay connections have worked well but starting the car this morning I get this error message (see picture) when I select "Telephone". I have tried to restart the system by pressing and holding the power button and doing a restore factory defaults but unfortunately these have not worked. Does anyone have any ideas what maybe causing this. I am currently on software version 1941.

Have you got a VPN installed on your phone? I have and it stops certain functionality if it's switched on, so I have to switch off the VPN first.

No I don’t have a VPN on my phone. I can’t access the Bluetooth menu to add or remove my phone from the car infotainment. Very strange, before I could use Bluetooth and CarPlay fine then 2 hours later it’s broken.

Unpair and re-pair? I'm struggling as it's an Ibone and I'm an Android user, it might be you need an app or OS upgrade or try connecting via a USB connection first

I tried to unpair and repair this afternoon but when I choose settings -> mobile devices I see the same error message “…currently unavailable“

Anyone else who has Apple/ioS OS have any ideas?

Just to clarify I’m getting these errors on the infotainment system not my mobile phone.

I’ve used wireless CarPlay successfully for over two years. No issues other than very early on when it wouldn’t auto-reconnect - fixed ages ago with an update to the car.

It is worth noting that the car to iPhone connection is either CarPlay (Smartlink) or ‘traditional’ Bluetooth (where the car reads the contacts etc from the phone and effectively is the controller for the phone).

With CarPlay, everything is done via the touchscreen or, preferably, using Siri.

So, if your iPhone is connected with CarPlay then the Bluetooth Telephone connection will be unavailable.

Never heard of an ibone, maybe they do need an app but for reference an iPhone has CarPlay built in to iOS.

I hate predictive text, I had iBone in the dictionary for a laugh and it picks it.

Are you still having this issue?

Recently started with me and unable to use either Bluetooth or android auto.

Getting rather bored of the issues with the electronics...

Hi, yes I’m still experiencing the problem. I’m also experiencing a new issue this morning, I now have an airbag warning light on the dash: airbag error see picture.

I have the car booked on Wednesday this week with Skoda so I’ll update this thread when I get the car back.

I have exactly the same two issues. Also booked in. Incredibly annoying. Tried pulling fuses to force a reset, but that's not worked.

Coincidentally I'm also listening to the same radio station.

Wow glad to hear it’s not just me having these issues with airbags and infotainment system.

Good taste in music too 😎

I have an update!

At the dealer today they tried updating the software and doing a battery reset but these did not work. They also told the car that the 5F unit was replaced and this restored the bluetooth function and I can now connect my phone! They said if the fault returns it will likely need a new 5F unit.

They found the airbag light was a sporadic fault and cleared the fault code and the light no longer appears.

Well I started my car this morning and saw that the problem has returned 😡. Phoned the dealer again this morning and have it booked in again for 2 weeks time where they will need the car for a few days to organise the new F5 unit and to talk with Skoda Technical department.

My car has been broken most of the time I have had it!

Incredibly frustrating. It's got to the point now where I think we're going to get rid of the car as I'm so fed up with having to sort out issues with it. We're booked in, in a couple of weeks.

So I have another update. A few days ago the dealer had the car in the workshop, they did some more investigation and spoke with Skoda technical department and went ahead and replaced the 5F unit. Got the car back a day later and I’m happy to report I can now connect my phone and use CarPlay etc.

This issue sounds like what I had with the voice control. Had to do a full factory reset on it all and setup primary user etc again.

Just got it back out the garage who did the recent software update on it; which has not fixed it.

This is about the fifth time I've had to take the car in (outside of MOTs and services) and I'm done with it. Going to get rid it for ASAP.

Yesterday was the second time I got this message for the entire drive (a short one). I think this happens when the headunit does an OTA update in the background. This time and the first one happened exactly the same - i got into the car and the phone didn't connect wirelessly and nor by cable. When I turned it off for about half an hour and then got back - it was working. Very unpleasant experience and poor design if it's the case.

I think you are correct, I find if there is an OTA, on occasion, I have had similar messages about certain functionality being unavailable.  Generally sorts itself out but the way the unit handles updates is not the best - even having more informative warnings would help.

Hi folks,

Coming back to this thread after some time. The new 5F unit has been performing OK but I have experienced the various software bugs and glitches others have on this forum. At my recent service I asked them to update the software but the garage decided to go the warranty route as it had an extended warranty . The garage phoned me today and a replacement instrument cluster has been approved under warranty! I am very confused and I thought a software update would fix the problems. This is the first Skoda and VAG car I have had not particularly impressed as it was sold as "Approved Used", been in the garage lots I doubt I'll be keeping it much longer. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

So I phoned the garage this morning asking why the car needs a new instrument cluster and they have said the car requires a new instrument cluster as the new software updates are incompatible with the hardware revision of the instrument cluster currently installed.

@Rossco_99 Did you replace the 5F unit or did you find an another solution? If yes, how much was the unit to replace? I have the same issue and I can’t find a solution. I would really appreciate your help!
