Columbus system can no longer start up

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Suddenly during a trip, my 2015 Octavia VRS the infotainment system completely stopped working. Upon start it's in the 'Starting navigation' state and eventually loads the map of Ingolstadt (I really wonder why that specifically as I'm based in Zürich), and show the speed limits in Germany, then it crashes and reboots automatically. This repeats a couple of times and it's completely unresponsive throughout, I cannot use any function on it, not even the radio, nor the settings, nor the system menu so I could give you any version or specific model number. Eventually the screen just goes blank until I restart the car/force reboot, and repeats the same cycles.

What I have tried so far:

- force rebooting by pressing the volume button for 10sec - it's doing that automatically anyway

- checked outside the antenna for any physical damage or dirt that may obstruct it, but looks fine and I doubt that anything has happened there

As I was searching here, I've downloaded the latest map based on the VIN (HIGH12_P330_EU_202322.zip), but I suppose (I haven't tried yet) I won't be able to install it without being able to access the menu. Nor, that it will actually help as the issue seem to be not only related to navigation, but broken at a higher level (I hope nothing major that requires an expensive visit to some Swiss dealer/repair shop).

So I'm writing in the hope that this is somehow a known software issue that I could just not find yet and somebody will be able to point me to the right direction to reinstall automatically the firmware with some trick during booting or whatever it may be required to fix/reset it.

Thanks in advance for any helpful member for the help.

Does anyone know how could I get started with troubleshooting? How could I find out the exact version if and get the firmware reinstalled?

@pab567 might have some ideas :)

In such case I believe you need some diagnostics tool to check SW version.

Generally I'm afraid that flash memory chip that keeps software failed.

Let me know VIN so I can check part number and share some more ideas.
