Is this a good price for the Superb L&K Saloon

Featured Replies

Hi,

I currently own a 68 plate Superb Sportline estate 220 bhp 2.0 petrol, which I bought new. This is my third in 10 yrs and I have to say I have loved them all. I swore blind to the Mrs this would be my last car for some time. Its been great the last year not having a car payment leave my bank every month and its kept the goodlady happy.

Yesterday my dealer calls and leaves a voicemail guaranteeing me the deal of a lifetime, and if interested to call back. Stupidly I did.

So I popped in on the way home from work and he points me in the direction of  a new L&K 2.0 tdi. I'm intrigued. Now come the figures and I was pretty blown away.

For my car he is offering  £18200 in trade in and an additional £1000 cash back to cover the cost of the additional tax for a further 3yrs beyond its first year. With all the crazy discounts the L&k which itself  has been reduced to £32,509, and am thinking this is a pretty sweet deal at just over 14k to jump into a new car.

Just wondering if anyone else has been offered similar deals and they are attempting to shift stock in preparation for the new model or if this is simply one of those genuine situations of right time and place.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If it is a great deal then I'll go down the route of asking the wife's forgiveness rather than permission and go sign the papers tomorrow.

Cheers

???

Does a Diesel / SCR (Adblue) suit your use, journeys length from cold starts & annual mileage?

?

Is the new car sitting there un-registered and ready to be collected?

Is it in the Showroom and they need to register it before the end of the month?

In terms of use it's a mixed bag.

The new car is sitting there ready to go. As for their needs to shift it, I could not say.

It's a discontinued model

But remember the latest emissions equipment on diesels is very sensitive to not getting full DPF regen.  Really need to be doing minimum 30 minute (nearer 40 in winter) journeys regularly, otherwise will give all sorts of trouble.

Personally I would question why the dealer ordered a diesel, rather than petrol for stock, when less than 1 in 25 cars sold new in UK are diesel.  Then has to offer it at silly price.  Caveat Emptor (buyer beware)

What’s the mileage on your 220? I think if you’re not planning on doing high mileage, I wouldn’t bother.
Personally, it was a daft decision of mine to get the MKII 170 given the mileages I was doing at the time. In any event, I wouldn’t go back to a diesel.

For 14k extra, on a car that is the same same with a lower powered engine and all the potential issues that comes with diesel if you don't use it as intended...

... I cannot see an upside. Don't forget the new MK4 is coming out.

You'll have a lot more depreciation on the new car too.

Apologies everyone,

I thought I had replied a few weeks back to say thanks for all the input.

In the end it made sense to stick with what I have.

Cheers

Wise choice, getting called from them is only in their interest.

I kept getting called from my local dealership saying “Your car is in demand, we’ll give you a great deal”

I said unless it’s a direct swap for a brand new one stop cold calling with your fakeness, been quiet ever since apart from rubbish in the post about “VIP deals” it’s so fake it’s annoying and childish.

OK rant over haha
