Karoq - Any models/engines/gearboxes to avoid?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Looking to buy a new family car that has a reasonable boot and my wife wants a high seating position, so it seems that the Karoq is a good fit for us on paper and has good reviews.

I'm currently erring toward a 1.5 TSI DSG but have seen various things about issues with that engine and I've been cautious of VAG DSG gearboxes for a long time, but am assuming they're ok by now 🤔

Is this an ok model to go for and, if so, are there any things I need to be aware of in terms of avoiding early cars etc? Is the DSG 'box the same from when the model was introduced to now?

I probably have up to about £17k to spend so it'll like be a 2019/2020 year car.

TIA!

The 1.0tsi is brilliant with DSG gearbox.

Would not recommend it with manuals gearbox.

The 1.5tsi DSG is even better.
Early 1.5s needed a software upgrade, ensure it was done.

Be careful with the diesels, the emissions system need to be able to complete DPF regens, (so if previous owner did lots of short journeys, or didn't do 30-40 minutes regularly expect partial clogging and potentially big bill to sort.

Not heard of any problems with the 1.0 or 1.5 DSG (problems were sorted years ago), but the 2 litre box is wet clutch and needs the fluid changed about every 38k miles, miss the change and expect problems later.

A 7 Speed wet clutch DSG if fitted to a AWD a 1.5 TSI or a 2 litre is a DQ381 & down not need 40,000 miles Oil Services (or 38,000 as Audi say)

They are @ 80,000 miles, but you might not want to leave than that long.

DQ250 DSG, 6 speed wet have a 40,000 miles schedule for servicing.

We’ve had a 2020 plate Sportline 1.5dsg auto petrol since May which replaced a much loved Freelander. It came with 19in rims fitted with Bridgestones as standard which quite frankly were literally a pita, such an uncomfortable ride, picking up every bump and pothole. Worse still Significant Other was constantly on the lookout for any such issues which took the fun out of even the shortest journey. Members on here suggested swapping the wheels out for something smaller but against that advice I kept the 19in rims and fitted Michelin CrossClimates (which I had on the Freelander and a Subaru Forester before that) and they’ve proved an absolute godsend, chalk and cheese compared to the Bridgestones. SO now enjoying the ride so double whammy😄

Apart from the issue with the tyres the car had to go back in for a software update which affected the satnav and kept throwing a ‘seek workshop’ message up but other than that it’s been a nice car to own.

I have a few mobility issues which was why we went with the Karoq being that bit easier to get in/out of. We then chose the Sportline as it  has the panoramic roof.

Hi BTandSid,     I have a Superb on 19in rims and my experience of driving on Bridgestones which were absolute garbage and like you I felt every bump and pothole crashes to the point I was thinking of getting a set of 17in rims .

Then I changed to Crossclimate 2 and the difference is staggering. The car feels more planted, very quiet and I have more confidence now with winter approaching. Plus the 19in rims look good on the Superb. Its good to see how these tyres make such an improvement over different Skoda marques.

And if like me you found your Significant Other didn’t comment on the ride so often, it’s all around a result 😂
