Skoda Fabia mk2 1.2htp 2009 need ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi I’m Jack male 18 and a mechanic and wanting to go to a motorsports apprenticeship soon. I passed my test in September and bought the Fabia with the help of my grandad as it’s my daily right now I’m not looking to do over the top mods but struggling to find the basic stuff to add to my car just looking for ides and places to find the parts that fit my car I’ve looked for about 2 hours just last night and couldn’t find an induction kit for the engine in my Fabia any help would be appreciated thanks.

Forget the engine completely, there are no mods to be done.

If you want to drive faster then replace the terrible standard suspension and brakes.

Motorsport engineering 101: faster laptimes are down to better handling, brakes and tyres, then a better driver, more engine power comes dead last!

It’s not for track days or to go loads faster just for fun and to look nice and I feel the engine bay looks a bit bare so anything people know would be right for my size engine etc please show me

Also any cosmetic mods would be good too

Honestly - leave it like it is. Before you do ANYTHING to the car - check the impact the mods with have on your insurance. Make sure it's insured with you as the main driver, and in your name, not anyone else's, spend your time and money on making it reliable and presentable.  If you prang it, and it's found to have any undeclared mods, and/or its not insured in your name and you're the main driver of the car, you're snookered.

We've all been though it - wait 12 months - get some no-claims under your belt, save some cash and then buy something that has a bit more go, and has the sparkly bits on.

I have the same car as you, my parents old car.  I bought them a new Fabia earlier this year. Its battered and bruised, reliable now, and the most used car on the drive, a set of rear tyres on my other car is probably worth more.  It is a great little car.  Enjoy it for what it is, and move it on when to get something you can mod and play with once the insurance costs are more bearable.

Sorry to sound like an old fart - save some cash, the Fabia is a cracking thing, a fantastic first car - enjoy it for what it is. Your next car is the one to start and mod.

I would have to agree with half of the people on here there is like 0 mods for this model only thing I been wanting to do to mine is put a different lump into it as there is no bolt on mods and I think this 1.2 polo engine is made of cheese even if strap a turbo kit to it would be funny but it would be a ticking time bomb I would say have a look into pd190 or pd160 or pd180 spoke to a couple of people and they said the swap is not as bad as you would think I would not want to do it with out the correct tools but would be fun todo but insurance is a hard one. Best option would be to buy a donor PD190 and then swap 90% of drive train and wires over should be plug in play really possible fab work needed.

Yes, swapping engines is easy if you have:

Loads of experience.

Loads of tools.

Loads of indoor space.

A four post lift.

An engine crane.

A complete donor car with the engine and gearbox, wiring loom, exhaust etc. all intact.

Knock yourself out if you can tick all those boxes.

Fair comment I have changed engines in a car with just a engine crane and some jack stands and some anger and a couple of close friends it’s not like a day job it’s something that takes time and effort I’m taking about restoring a mk2 escort 1976ish of course it’s a different ball game, if you where to do it with the correct tools you need impact gun loads of impact sockets can use hand tools but will suck, you don’t need a fancy 4 pot lift that just makes life easy experience is something you learn with trying to do it you need to try before you fail if I’m wrong correct me, a donor car is something you can get from copart or fb or anyware you want it’s a lot of effort for a Fabia but it’s part of a hobby make sure to buy a work shop manual for the car in hand to ensure you torque any bolt to manufacture spec,

indoor space? small garage would work for when the car is a bare shell work on it during non rainy days or buy a small car size marquee simple solution you don’t need indoor space for something like that if it’s cool power though?

I've changed an engine with nothing but a thick rope round the shoulders and standing on the front wings (ended up dented) and an assistant to shove mounting bolts in. Mind you it was only an engine, no transmission, on a rear drive Ford. Would never do it like that again.
