Kamiq SOS Warning- Fault code- Take to workshops-

Featured Replies

Hello

New to this forum and so Hi.

I recently purchased a 2021 Kamiq Monte Carlo 1.5 DSG, from Lookers Skoda in Newcastle. After finalising the sale I left and drove back to Scotland. I was about half way home when the SOS warning light and ! triangle appeared saying take to workshops. As you can imagine I wasn't best impressed. There was no point in turning back and so contacted Newcastle and I was told to go to local dealer.

I have enquired as to whether this fault might have been present before I left with the car and somehow temporarily reset. Of course the reply was " No of course Not ".

Anyhow, my car went in to A Glasgow Skoda dealership and it seems it doesn't just need an update but a new Antenna.! this requires the whole roof panel removal and it isn't the first fault of this nature.

Anyone had similar and does anyone know if I can trace the date the fault first originated?

P.s. Anyone noticed if you take your car to a dealership for a fault, other than the one you bought it from, they give you a booking-in date months into the future. I couldn't believe when, one of the service team in Glasgow told me they do that deliberately because you went elsewhere! Crazy!

This type of fault is common. I have a Karoq, and I had this problem. The first time was on a summer trip to Austria and the alarm went off quite a few times. It almost always reset by switching off the engine, alliowing the systems to shut down and restarting. This was 'cured' by a software update and a new aerial. I was told it was a glitch when you moved between service providers. I only used the car once before we went on a second trip to the continent and it went off 3 times before we reached the Channel Tunnel, leaving me with no SOS system for all of the M25 from Surrey to Folkestone. We had 21 alarms in 14 days. So it was back in for a further update, then it was decided we needed another new aerial. So in for 7 days for the first time and another 4 days for the second.

BTW, although we have probably had 40-50 occurences no fault showed in the log. I haven't really used the car since so I don't know whether it is finally cured, and no plans at present for any longish trips.

This happened to me several times usually in the same area, a hill overlooking toward Bath.

If I stopped and turned the ignition off it would go away, but I took it to my dealer in Bath.

They ran diagnostics and told me there was nothing to worry about, bring it back next week.

I did and they did a software update, no further troubling false alarms.

New to the group but interestingly I have just taken delivery of a 21 plate Kamiq 1.0 s e l and twice within the first 3 days the SOS alarm and message “take car to workshop “ came up. After being given the runaround from the dealership where I got it, they have asked me to bring it back for a diagnostic check this afternoon. As they are not a Skoda dealership I don’t hold much faith in them, but we’ll see. Oddly both times the SOS alarm went off I was within 100yds of home !! Just a coincidence?

I've posted about this in another separate thread. After reading more or less everything available I'm almost convinced it's something to do with radio/phone, DAB or satellite frequencies/signals. I've had interference more and more with my home alarm, my DAB signal in cars and even my WiFi at home. Updating the software may fix it, may not. If it needed a software fix then Skoda issue one not piddle around trying this or that first.

I was in the Durham area when my SOS triggered, the first instance, the second and third times in Derbyshire, it's just random.

My 20 plate Kamiq has this problem.
I have put up with it for quite awhile.

my local King’s Lynn Skoda garage wants £150 per hour to 1. Investigate the problem and 2. To fix the problem!

can a non franchised garage be capable of sorting the problem?

Yes, as long as there are independent VAG specialists in East Anglia.

the piece that you need is a 10£ antena in the SOS unit.

A local garage quoted £174 to sort it.

Can you provide more information like a part number or link ? Thanks in advance!

you need to scan for errors.

if you have error B200049 - Faulty control unit, you need to remove the OCU unit, it is behind the light switch, and replace the back-up antenna

part 5WA998058C

if you have error B20004B or B200047 it is about SW update or entire OCU unit replacement
