Service Indicator Reset

Featured Replies

Hello, I don’t have VCDS etc yet but I do know you can reset the indicator without tools, any cons to doing it that way?

Not that I'm aware of. I've done it without the VCDS and it worked fine, however the service schedule had previously been set at 5000 mile intervals rather than the extended one which mine should be. This adjustment can only be made with VCDS or similar.

Ah mines on yearly, so hoping it’ll stick to that.

Keep meaning to get VCDS but at nearly £500 my arse gets a headache

Assume that's the one with unlimited licences. Mine is restricted to three and was much cheaper.

It was unlimited, I did see 3 vin but if you want more you need to buy a 10 vin then from 10 you can go to unlimited.

The 3 vin, I guess that’s in total as oppose to 3 every 12 months or so?

As I understand it that's total, no option to change vins after 12 months. There's an option to upgrade from 3 to 10 or unlimited at any time. It's not a time based subscription, once you've paid it's yours for ever.

The owners’ manual says reset’s not a diy job, as it could cause damage, andshould be done by ‘a specialist garage’.   Resetting it on Mrs B’s Nissan is straight forward, so what it dangerous on the Octavia, and is it possible for it to be diy?

Thanks

Reset mine "manually" today... not sure why it would be dangerous...

1. Ignition off...
2. Hold trip reset
3. turn ignition on still holding trip reset
4. option to reset comes up.
5. let go of the trip reset
6. press reset trip to acknowledge.
7. turn off ignition.

At stage 4 - if you hold longer it will change from Rest oil  to reset inspection...

Nothing, does the vehicle handbook really say that?

It has been on all my Skodas to date, usually not mentioned in the handbook but there is always a way, its possible later vehicles are different.

It's possibly dangerous in the sense that people might simply reset it and not service their cars when they should, so possibly risking damage to engines with oil not changed or overlooked inspection of brakes etc

Dangerous to the profits of the service departments certainly and to the poor sod buying the car second hand that's been serviced, but not really, just reset

yes there is always a way,  the latest vehicles are different though, i  changed the oil on my 2022 superb and used the you tube video method which  changed  it to fixed intervals

although i do  have obd11 and vcds so could have kept it on variable servicing

Every service I have forgotten how to reset the counter so resort to Youtube 😁

Many thanks all.
