Heating Issues

Featured Replies

Picked up my new Fabia in September 2022 and by January 2023 the heating fans only worked on setting 4.

After my original dealer closing down and an absolute mess with them transferring to their other dealer, they finally fixed the issue in June.

Well… it’s now the end of November and just today the same thing has happened again. I’m thinking the likelihood of two dodgy heater resistors is slim and thinking perhaps a hidden issue elsewhere causing it.

Has anyone else had or heard of a similar issue with the new Fabias?

Been a weak point for at least 15 years, heating resistor fails, so blower fan only works on highest setting when it bypasses the resistor, but changing resistor unit normally sorts problem for years.

But if is happening more than once, suggests the fan motor is drawing too much power, possibly faulty motor winding, or the fan is not spinning freely so overloading the motor.  You need to get the cause (the overloading from the motor) also looked at, whilst resistor is changed

Cheers John,

New issue for me as never happened in previous Fabias, I put the first one down to a dodgy part when the car was built but now it’s happened again a few months later I’ll take your recommendation and ask the dealer to take a look at the motor itself when they book it in.

  • 1 month later...

My fabia heater fan packed up in December 2022.It took 5 months for them to replace the heater resistor pack.

Failed again in November 2023, this time they changed the fan motor and resistor pack.

Failed again December 2023 so now in garage again, they say they will look at the wiring this time.

Fingers crossed as the car was new in September 2022

That’s interesting to know that we have cars picked up the same month with the heating packing in on exactly the same timeline aswell.

My garage can’t even get mine booked in until end of Jan but I’m now expecting to have the exact same as you’ve experienced with it booked back in not long after.

Will keep you posted on the outcome

Had the car for two weeks now. They say there is a current draw

I feel for you. Dealer is totally taking the ****, and has absolutely no interest in resolving your problem! Useless ****s, you would probably be better taking it to an independent auto electrician. But that is easier said than done if you do not know one. Sorry for my rant, just dealers really do care not one bit.

When I ring them tomorrow for an update and I will also ask if they sell cowboy hats !

So today we rang and was informed they have been in contact with VW technical who suggested they compare our car to another fabia and yes there is an issue with a resistor.Which resistor this is a mystery and so the saga continues …

at least we have a courtesy car they said !

It’s a great car, it really is but it baffles me how probably the most basic component of any modern car is causing this many issues and they can’t figure out why. Bizarre

Still at the garage, they have informed me they will perform a voltage drop test….

I am now looking at “Consumer rights act 2015”

The current solution for my issues was…. Another heater resistor.

This will now be the 3rd one on a car a year and a half old.

The “master technician” had the car in and took a look at the electrics etc and couldn’t see anything obvious so they’ve fitted another heater resistor and basically if this one goes again which I’m sure it will, they’ll raise it straight to Skoda themselves and see where we go from there.

They haven’t yet replaced the full unit either.

Still waiting a resolution on ours, been in garage since December

  • 3 weeks later...

At last a resolution and we have the car back

They compared the current draw through resistor pack with two other cars and found higher reading on our car.

Relay J59 was replaced as was deemed at fault

So now we wait …..

Any luck with the Relay fix as our Fabia resistor pack was changed early in the year. It has gone again today!

Thanks

Been good so far

Hope it works for you this time. Had mine fixed again a couple of weeks ago. They fitted a new resistor pack and a new heater motor.

When asked about a goodwill gesture, given this has failed four times, I was asked if we had been financially impacted by the issues. We said not really but have had to drive the car for many months in the winter with no heating.

Service manager said not a chance!

We will not be buying any VAG product again

Hi, I’ve just found this link after posting of having a problem with our heater, the car is a Fabia se comfort we collected it on the 1st of September 2022 and to date has been absolutely fine, however in the last couple of days the heater blower is only working on 4, absolutely nothing on 1 2 or 3, I’ve seen on YouTube the videos of how to replace the resistor on the earlier models but not the mk 4, does anyone know if it’s as simple a fix with the mk 4 please, it’s Sod’s Law it’s packed up now 2 months out of warranty I don’t for one moment think that they’ll repair it foc our nearest dealer is a 2 hour round trip so May speak to them tomorrow and see what they say. Cheers Scotty
