New Company Car Soon - Octy or Superb?

Featured Replies

I understand the 2007 Octy L&K has the puddle lights in the mirrors' date=' rear parking sensors are standard and I read somewhere that heated rear seats may be available (but I haven't seen this confirmed by Skoda).[/quote']

All specifications from Elegance upwards have always had puddle lights in the mirrors & rear parking sensors as standard. I would be really surprised if the rear heated seats option ever became available in the UK.

Guys, once again many thanks for the informed debate on this issue. From what i have read here I am still in tow minds...I think the Superb is still a little ahead of the Octy. One of the key things is to have a car that sits just under the £20k price OTR (and/or) P11D price.

I think a test drive will be the big swing as i need to be sure I can throw the Superb around a bit (also want to know that I can go for the 2.0 TDI and get it tuned...and be invisible to the Skoda Dealer - I also need to be able to switch off the tune as well). Apparently we are going for contract hire as opposed to what we used to do (the company buying the car and having to put up with depreciation)...what difference if any does this make to getting it tuned? Does anyone have any experince of contract hire and what you can get away with?

Again, thanks for all your comments.

Octy Sport 2.0 TDi is nice! Had a play with one in the showroom the other day. I can't help but feel Skoda could have used a better quality plastic for the top of the dash, though. :(

The Superb is based upon a platform that is nearly 10 years old now (get in a 1997 Passat and apart from the badge and the odd trim difference, you wouldn't know which was which up front).

What's the CO2 like? The Honda CDTi 2.2 140bhp in the new Civic and Accord are amazing in this area. I'm drawn to the new Civic myself.

I test drove the 2.2 CDTi Accord before the Octy but tbh it didnt set my pulse racing. It was quick enough off the mark but didn't have the grunt of the 2.0TDi OctyII. It was very petrol like to drive with some of the associated dissadvantages too unfortunately.

We contract hire our cars. I'm not aware of anyone having their car tuned but I can't imagine the contract company agreeing to it.

Having said that I'll be looking for a way of tuning that can be removed/hidden. For this reason I'm probably favouring a tuning box or similar.

Down side to a tuning box is that if you are unfortunate enough to have a bad accident or the car is nicked & recovered the tuning box is there for all to see without any real Investigative knowledge. A map can only be found if someone goes looking hard.

If you are satisfied you can hide it from the dealer or the dealers sympathetic I would opt for a map but its very much how you view the risks.

The bottom line is any mod is detectable if they look hard enough

Just an update to the discussion so far.

I may now be looking at opting out of the company car scheme and this has now also altered my spending and choice of fuel too. For me it looks like I could have a PCP monthly allowance of around

Depreciation on the Superb will be more BUT if you hunt around you can get some stonking deals on Superbs, we went from Octy 1 L&K Diesel To Superb Elegance Diesel a few weeks ago & we definately made the right choice, the Superb just Eats up Motorways effortlessly & even at 140 bhp is no slouch & can be maped as you know;) ;) , downside is its a bit thirstier than the old Octy but thats a combination of a heavier car & the new generation diesels I guess but its slowly improoving as the car puts on miles.

Tuning the current Octy will be fun BUT it always costs more than you could possibly budget for, theres also 2 lots of Tax & Insurance to pay. having said that I have a runner as well as the tweaked Octy 4x4 but it is a financial drain at times (yes we have 3 Skodas)

Last thought, Its always nice having a new car :) :)

The 2.0 TDI Combi with DSG is a nice car, agree with the comment on exiting junctions quickly but I use the manual slection a fair bit and when you get used to it goes like stink
