Can anyone tell me what type of oil is used in the gearbox of the octavia 4x4 and the quantity? also is there a differential on the rear axle, or is it all controlled through the haldex?

There is a differential and the haldex unit.

The correct oil comes in a tube from VAG and is the correct amount for the haldex unit. You need a special tool for the filter.

According to Autodata CD2, the 4X4 needs 2.4 litres of 75W/90 synthetic oil for the gearbox. Haynes quotes the oil as being Skoda G50 gear oil. I think that G50 is a VAG designation.
