Pre-heating the car interior

Featured Replies

One of the things I love about the MySkoda App is that at this time of year I can (usually) set the car heating to come on about 15 minutes before I leave the house, so de-icing is easy and the car is comfortable from the off.  On the last few occasions I've attempted to use it, I get a message saying, "You have exceeded the number of requests.  This function will be available again after the next trip".  This is when using it for the first time on any given day; no previous requests have been made.

Has anybody else had the same problem?  Is there a way to achieve the same from the car's controls without using the app?

I've not seen that exact problem, but although I agree it's a great function on a cold day I find it rarely works first thing in the morning. It usually fails with a "couldn't connect" error, which leads me to suspect that Skoda's servers aren't able to keep up with the demand at peak times. A function which only works when you don't need it is pretty useless 😒

Funny enough, I've just tried it and it's worked.  Definitely not the norm of late.

I have a superb iv, how does the preheating work when im charging the car.

i have the car set to charge until just before i go to work and i have the ac set at 24 degrees but the last two days ive come out to a frozen car. i use the e-manager in the car.

Not sure on that one. I use the OVO Charge Anytime app, for which I set a time for the car to be ready, and OVO chooses when to charge based on grid load. I’ve only ever used the Skoda app to pre-heat the interior, but that has an option to only allow use if the car is plugged in, so battery is not depleted before I set off.

I’m curious. Is this an optional extra? I have recently purchased a (rather troublesome) 22 Superb Sportline. All the app shows me is if the car or windows are locked/unlocked and its fuel range etc.

Is the climate feature only available on the IV model?

This is only available on iv models yes.

or those with a webasto parking heater

Yes I get this a lot, it’s usually when the car has been sat there for longer than 36hrs and has gone into a sleep mode and the app can’t wake the car up.

How do you know if you’ve got the webasto parking heater? Is it a trim level thing which is standard above a certain level?

If your car is for the U.K. market there is 0% chance you’ll have it. It wasn’t an option for the U.K. market.

but it can be retrofitted ;)

No matter how many times I turn the allow battery off, the app just turns it back on.  If the car is plugged in though it uses the cable and not the battery.

I had loads of issues with intelligent octopus and charging. Subsequently the preheat never worked as it does on plain charging. I've since turned the smart charge bit off and have it timed as per the in car system. Pre heat too. Not sure how the VW and Skoda systems differ but the base functions should be the same.....in theory.

I think the problem with Intelligent is that it runs a time to charge the car only, but the Skoda wants to charge and then heat up afterwards.  Other manufacturers start the preconditioning at say 95% and the last 5% takes longer.  In saying that, it should still preheat even if it’s on the battery, but maybe it knows the cable is plugged in but can’t take a current and so it just gives up.

I run the Skoda on a 3pin and it’s mostly ok, it does random annoying crap though like sometimes it ignores the off-peak timer and starts charging if you’ve left it unlocked (and other as yet, unknown reasons).  The 3pin can’t supply enough current to charge and heat up though.

i set mine from the app to charge between 23:30 - 05:30 and then I tell it to heat from 07:00-07:30 on a separate program.  That way I always charge at offpeak but it’s always warmed and defrosted when I leave.

You can battle some of that by playing the timing game.  I have my offpeak timer set to finish after the preheat event so it soaks up some more from the mains to top up from the preheat battery usage.  I do have a proper wall point though and a house battery, so the mains usage is very small for that period.  You could bring the preheat earlier (by 15-30 mins?) and have the charging period end after you expect to leave.  That way you will maximise the potential for topping off the battery but clearly at a cost of peak leccy.

I should proably know this after two years of ownership, but how do you do that?

Update on the original problem.  I believe the OVO Charge Anytime app is the culprit.  You set a time for the desired charge level to be acheived, then OVO decide when the charge is distributed, according to demand.  If it attempts to charge in several bursts, it'll use up the number of over-the-air requests the car will accept.  Why there is a lmit is beyond me, but I'm unaware of any channel through which to escalate the issue.

Strike that - worked out it's from eManager settings.
