Genuine opinions please

Featured Replies

Hi all, as the title says really. I really want opinions on a tuning comany (regarding their re maps) called UPSOLUTE. Whether they be good, bad or indifferent I have heard one report and it was good but I trust you lot. so here goes..............................

Never heard of them mate go with a recommended one like awesome even if its only to go look at Awesome sarah ;)

I have heard of Upsolute, however not good news. Their remap IIRC holds the record for being the shortest installed remap on this site. About 30mins I believe. the map isnt smooth and peaks low down the rev range giving good acelleration at above recomended turbo pressure, then backs off to near normal. You apparently get thrown forward towards the screen as the boost comes off.

Also heard bad things myself.

Hi.

I have an Upsolute chip on my 2000 AGU 1.8T since 2002.

They send me the chip and I had to do the rest of the job. Take out the ECU, desolder the old chip and resolder the new one. That's because there is no Upsolute distributors near my country.

At first I noticed was that the car was running very rich and didn't feel it different. After some minutes of driving the car began to run normally and push harder; I think the ECU needed to adapt.

Regarding mileage. The fuel consumption didn't change too much.

Regarding power, the dyno gave me about 142whp that would be around 165hp crank. The promised power was 190hp crank. The problem is that I live at about 8800ft over sea level that causes a power loss of 30% on NA cars and about 12% on turbo. So using the correction factor the power at sea level should be around 188hp, very near to the promised 190hp.

Must note that the highest octane available at that time was 88:mad: . So the ECU pull timing a lot to compensate for detonation.

No surging, no need for a new DV.

No problem with emission tests. CO, O2 and HCx decreased, CO2 increased but within legal values.

Is Impossible Performance not an Upsolute dealer?

Yeh, I thought Impossible used upsolute remaps and Ive spoken to a number of members that love their remap from Impossible. Im sure thats what Gerry (Berretta) has as one example.

Upsolute? Upsolute shiiiite more like :grumpy:

Yes, I had it. Yes I paid for it. Would I recommend it? Only to someone I loathed and detested with a passion which can only be dreamed of

I'm sure if you search on here you may well find some comments from me on what I thought about it in more detail.

I can only echo Tavias statement, and thank the b@st@rds for ****in@ my turbo

Yep, mapped by Impossible, but not an Upsolute map....:P ..............and yes I and others really do rate the map.

238bhp and 242 lb ft torque from a 1 bar map must be rubbish ????? but there again, what do I, Delcac, DaveU and others know about Impossible Performance, (NOT UPSOLUTE) maps

Shssss

You should not say things like that....would not be able to do any work then.

But the bike racing was good to the end eh Gerry

Take care mate

Will always try to do a brew as it is an excuse to have one myself

Sarah

had an upsolute remap on my octy RS last year but had some problems with the ECU from a previous owner attempt to put a super chip on it,but have to say i had no probs with the map at all...very smooth....the ubsolute dealer over here in dublin is well respected and does a huge number of cars all which are then raved about on the irish forums!!! One of my mates lives in stockholm and did some work at their factory in germany and said the place was huge and they did most of the maps for any kind of motor racing in europe!! Maybe its the dealers that are the problem?

k:)

To be fair, i have heard good and bad about Upsolute, and have considered them myself.

But i have also heard as many good and bad reports about other tuners as well, who sell generic remaps.

It is the same with all generic remaps, because our cars are all different, the remap takes to some better than others, and we are inclined to post bad reviews quicker than good ones.

Where do you live?? There are probably other options available to you at similar cost.

i cant remember what site it was on the other day but i remember reading about this particular company that supplies a little black box that will change the map back to stock if required so that you can choose between the stock map or the custom.sounds perfect if you need to take the car back for any warranty work;)

i thought it was a company called angel tuning but cant find the page that told about the switchable map option now:O

jimvrs - I don't want to hijack your thread but I've put 2 and 2 together and I think I got 4 !

Anyway, if the mods don't mind I just wanted to find out about the bad press that UPsolute seem to have got on here.

Really I wanted to see if any are my customers - I'm Simon btw.

If not then I just wanted to know why it wasn't sorted in some way or another - by this I mean refund if neccesary.

The reason I'm here is purely because I make a living doing the UPsolute tuning and so obviously bad press ain't good. But, I really do go out of my way to ensure my customers are satisfied - but if it's not one of my customers then I'm kind of out on a limb because how can I solve what I didn't cause (well I could actually I suppose, but that's another matter I guess)

So, if anyone has any info to give then please give it - yes I'm trying to protect my interests here, but I'm sure you can see that something totally unrelated to me can have a negative effect on me.

Esabogal - I do a lot of AGUs as you may seen on the mark IV's forum. You really should be seeing about 190-195bhp from your car, but as you say, high altitude, high temps etc will lower this.

Glider - Turbo probs are rare but can happen - Did I do your car ?

Again, if you have further info then please let me know, by PM or email if you wish.

I'm not here to advertise, quite the contrary in fact as I rarely post on forums but really I just wanted to find out where the bad experiences have come from.

TIA

Simon.

What map do Impossible use?

Good question - Don't know.

They are no longer on the UPsolute list (check website) so, I guess it depends when we are talking about ?

I've no idea what they do now though.

Hi simon, you said you would have to come on here and have a read, I hope you get the answers your after.

OK, I'm sorry to hear that.

I think I'm correct in saying that you weren't my customer though right ?

If you had been I would have done everything I could to solve the problem. This is my point really - there are different files, if the wrong one is used it will cause probs. Over the time I've been doing this I've become aware of where potential probs can occur and I can solve them. I now what you are talking about - in fact I could probably right now tell you what ECU/software etc you were running - I really know the file that well. MY point is that I know what file should be used.

I know what you are talking about Re: poor response time etc on the forum, that's really why there are distributors - to take the flak as it were, although I appreciate you were a customer of UPsolute you were also a customer of presumably Impossible ? so really they should have sorted it one way or the other. and by the latter I mean refund if neccesary.

I'm sure you would agree that it harms my business when a customer of UPsolute (via whoever) is not happy and so I would, given the circumstances have solved it for you, but hey that's in the past now I guess.

All I ask is that people don't knock me/UPsolute until then have been properly looked after with respect to having a problem solved. I'm sure you'd agree this is fair - although I understand your situation entirely in that as far as you were concerned the after market support was pretty much none existant.

If a car drives ****e then belive me I'm the first to say it and certainly won't leave a car that is running poorly - through fault of the software or a fault otherwise unknown on the car.

  • 2 years later...

Just to revive this thread.

I have had my mk1 octy vRS done by Simon and he seems a good jenuine bloke who seemed to know his stuff.

I had mine done around a year ago now and thought that it was never gonna be as smooth as the std map so I left it, I have had loads of remaps in the past and all have been rubish in comparison.

RED DOT: crap power 196bhp and torque 202 lb/ft also kept throwing faults: mapped engine temp.(went back 4 times to try solve it and only worked on std map so got money back after he put a new file on and i drove to cardiff and it wouldnt start again.) one thing on the first time I went in, the power delivery was V good. just not a lot of it and kept throwin coads.

Fatty5000 helped me out gettin her sorted again by recomending a mate near cardiff, he put the std map on or so he said but it felt a little bit faster and jus as smooth but nothin in comparison to the red dot.

then i went to get the APR and due to my previouse probs the guy said to put the trial on, I did and it was ok just very hard on the boost and it delivered it all at once. ONE THING WHEN GETTIN THE TRIAL, IT ENCRYPTS THE ECU TO MAKE IT VERY HARD FOR ANOTHER TUNER TO REMAP! something they dont tell you, and the APR dealer didnt even know as he said it wouldnt.

then i got simon to do mine, He came down to Cardiff after doing a mk5 golf LE at the time it felt ok but had the stage boost stages thing, and it was a bit juddery under cons accel that i pointed out to him, N75, coils were the prob he thought. I changet the coils and it sorted out the jubbering but not feel of boost stages.

this is the first car I have gone to mod and the only thing really lettin it down is the map, Shame I dont have the know how to make a map myself to exactly what I want. I never knew that an after market map would be as smooth as the std one so never really said anything, but I really would like to know of one.

ONE THING WHEN GETTIN THE TRIAL, IT ENCRYPTS THE ECU TO MAKE IT VERY HARD FOR ANOTHER TUNER TO REMAP!

What you mean they protect their data somehow so no one could just download it and resell it? Never.

I know its only a trial but cant blame them for that. Im not sure how they do it mind, a tuner I have worked for in the past changed the ECU chip and set it in a cradle that mean only they could read it, not sure how they get around it these days with OBD tuning.
