All Noise No blow!!!!

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased an Octavia 1.8T elegance 4x4 nice motor but the turbo is very noisy (whistling), dumps pressure to atmosphere off throttle (nice whoooosh) but dont get any sort of kick from the thing is this normal or is something adrift?

The reason for asking is that i had an MG turbo years ago and it would push you back in ya seat should the Skoda do this or is it a low blow unit

It is low pressure but it should give a fair kick. Sounds like something is a miss matey.

If you can hear the turbo boosting but it doesnt go very well my bet would be a fault with the air mass meter (aka MAF Sensor).

i'd agree, the one difference between this 1.8T and the older turbos is that this kicks in a bit lower so doesn't give you the same kick in the back they used to, I used to have an escort RS tub and that certainly did it, one of my mates has a fiat coupe and its nothing nothing oh my god!

More refined some would say!!!

Thanks guys, i will get the air mass sensor checked at my local dealers.

Dont forget the Escort turbo had a Garret T3 on it which is fecking huge for a 1.6 engine.

I'd say you should check the diverter valve first - if you hear a "chakka-chak" release of pressure between gear changes, then it sounds like it's losing pressure - it should try to maintain it (it's a diverter valve, not a dump valve).

They cost something like 25 quid for a new one, and the standard ones degrade over time.

Mmmmmm I have to admit to not liking the refined turbo sometimes.

Even on a diesel, on a 306 td it was nothing nothing 2000rpm OMFG, on the octy it's just nice smooth power, which is in all truth probably better, but less fun.
