Electric windows have a mind of their own!

Featured Replies

New to forums so hi!

Owned a 2019 Karoq SE 1.6TDI for a few years now with no issues but have recently been experiencing a strange issue on the electric windows.

All four windows are do not necessarily respond when moving up or down with the drivers switch and sometimes go the opposite direction to that commanded.

If I press and hold the fob open or close all windows open and close correctly so my feeling is it must be some issue with the signal getting to the ecu - I.e button control issue.

Is this a known issue? I saw something about a reset procedure which I followed and it started working but after a couple of short trips it was back to being all over the place.

Would appreciate any advice before calling the garage.

Just went out to check the car again after it having not been driven for 30 mins and now all working correctly again! Seems to be an intermittent one. 😳

Our 2018 karoq started to do that recently.  It progressively got worse until driver control would not open passenger window or do the auto up/down for the drivers window.

I took the switch out to check.  The internals of the switch were broken.  There are lots of tiny plastic 'rockers' I there, some of which were broken.

Got a new switch from Amazon for £15.  Problem solved and quite simple to fit.  Works well, although some slight difference in light colour of buttons, but nothing major.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I may well just order one to try.

What I’d like to do when the problem comes back is try the other switches around the car and see if they are able to control the windows correctly at the same time as the driver control is playing up.

When you had the problem was it sometimes driving in the opposite direction? How do you remove the panel with the switches in?

Didn't have them moving in the wrong direction, but having taken the old switch innards apart, I can see how that might happen.

When mine was playing up i could control the windows using the switches on each door fine.

To remove:

- pry the switch panel up.  The whole unit is just clipped in place.  So no need to remove the door card or handle.

- there are two connectors under the switch, which you need to unclip. Difficult to explain, but one connector has a spring tab you pull to release and the other has a plastic clip.

Have a look at the link below.  Different car but general principle is the same, take note of how to unclip the two connectors

This is the switch I bought

Thank you @Geoffcapes. I’ve been out to the car the last few evenings but haven’t been able to replicate the problem until tonight. I wanted to check the other window switches when the problem happened.

So when the driver side is in fault it drives all 4 windows in the wrong direction but when I use the buttons directly on the passenger windows they all work perfectly! So must be an issue with the drivers side controller. I will replace and see

That does sound strange.  If it was a mechanical failure like mine, i can't see how it would make all 4 windows go the wrong way.

For less than £20 it's probably worth swapping out in any case.  You can always return it.

Hi @Daveh1984

My Karoq 2020 SE L , is doing very similar to yours , did replacing the drive side switch resolve it for you also?

Cheers

Vinny
