Software updates

Featured Replies

Every couple of weeks, a minute or so after I've set off in the car, the infotainment puts up a message saying 'software update available - OK / Cancel'.  So I press OK.  The infotainment system thinks for a few seconds before putting up another message 'you cant do that while driving, naughty boy' (or something similar) with a single button option to go back - where upon it reverts to my music selection.

So the question is - has the update occurred in the background?  If not, how am I expected to enable an update if the car always waits until I am driving in order to tell me that there is an update, but that 'yah boo, you cant do anything about it'?

I think it depends on what the update is, so do it in the back ground and others I think you have to sit and wait (as such)

but to look at the up dates, have a look at the Infotainment screen and just below is a line of switches (cannot remember

what is on it) but its about centre of the screen just press it with the ign on and it will give some info to say if a up date is

available.

I got one pop up last night and I clicked OK and when it had done it just said "it will take affect next time I start the car"

Most of them seem to be quite innocuous, dealing with graphical and infotainment system tweaks, like the shop etc.

It will tell you if it's a major system update.

I think I'm on about the 5th or 6th minor update so far.

OK, it's labelled "info" and I just went and started the engine and sat there for several minutes as several notifications gradually appeared, one of which was the system update.  I set it going and in another few minutes it came back and said it was all done.  As it was going to do it in the background, I don't know why it had a problem with me setting it going whilst driving - if it had a problem with that it should never have given me the option.

The next time I take the car out I will try looking at the "info" at the end of the journey and see if I can resolve any issues without having to sit with the car stationery and with the engine running.

Yes mine used to do that, which was annoying. The latest update has fixed that on my vRS. You can look in notifications to see what's going on btw.

I think that although the Infotainment system recognises an update is available, it won’t automatically download and update most likely due to it needing permission to use your 4G or 5G network to download it, which it doesn’t have.

Therefore, you need to download the update from https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

onto an SD card, if you have a reader or a USB stick and then go to “settings” on the infotainment system, scroll down to “system info” and select “update system” or something similar.

The system should automatically download any updates, mine does, you can see what (if any) updates are available by touching the screen at the bottom (just left of centre).

You shouldn't keep denying updates, they're issued free and for a reason, so to keep the car's female side happy and stop it from nagging you all of the time, just update when it says one is available, it'll update on the move and it generally won't apply it until the car is stopped and ignition off for at least a couple of minutes or so.

Well it may depend on something because my car does not offer available updates at all but when i take the car to the service they do 3 updates at once? They are not so cool to tell me the reasons.

Not all updates are over the air to date. Only in the last few weeks have I read about the bigger ones being pushed out that way.
