Well bye bye Octavia

Featured Replies

Well it's been a blast and I've enjoyed almost every minute of it, but I've seen an offer that's too good to turn down on a Karoq so the Octavia will be going soon. Looking forward to something a little taller so I don't have to worry quite as much in gravel car parks or going through floods.

Little picture of the Octavia doing what it does best. I hope the Karoq is just as good at swallowing kit and lugging stuff around.

Enjoy your new Karoq. I hope it goes smoothly for you.  What model are you buying. Colour. Your Octavia looks great btw.

I like the meteor grey. It's a cool non colour.

Me Too. Time to call it quits on the Octavia Mk4. Can't say i've really got on with it. Nice car to drive but there too many niggles that I've had with it that spoils the whole experience. Going back to a Superb L&K and hoping for a better driving experience.

Well, for me it was other way around - i had Ateca (Karoq's twin) before O4. I have to say i prefer Octavia :)

I have to say my biggest concern is that I too will prefer the Octavia, but I live in Cumbria so the height will be useful on flooded roads. 4 wheel drive might be helpful on occasions. Plus I'm really not sure I want to own the Octavia out of warranty.

I have loved almost every minute with the Octavia, came close to getting rid over the SOS issues 18 months ago!

Here's a picture of the new one.

Well, Karoq is nice car (was considering it, but finally went with Ateca).

Biggest differences for me were fuel consumption (much higher in Ateca despite same engine), ride comfort (Karoq is a bit softer than Ateca, but still quite a bit harder than O4, as it has to cope with higher center of gravity) and boot size. O4 has much more space in the trunk and one can fit much longer things, like 226cm Ikea Pax cabinet (of course in packages :) ) is not an issue at all.

On the other hand you already have some good justification for having SUV. Also i prefer driving position of Ateca/Karoq.

I'm afraid, that when it comes to potential issues it will be very similar. It's mostly same platform, with (i think) exactly same infotaiment and assistants. But who knows? Maybe they have own software branch which is bit more polished?

Anyway enjoy you new car :)

Infotainment looks like my old Passat rather than the new Octavia but time will tell.

I'll see how I get on with it anyway. Worst case I count down the days until I can get back in an Octavia 🤣

I looked at Ateca but no 2.0 tsi anymore so it was either a Cupra or the Karoq.

Living in Cumbria nearest Cupra is a good drive away so decision made. I'll have to update people after a few weeks.

Karoq has the panoramic roof which is nice.

To be honest i am not sure what they did with infotaiment, that's why i said "i think" :)

Usually during face lift they also change infotaiment to latest version, so Karoq should get same MIB3 as O4, of course in different form factor (in this case display built in the dash instead of a tablet sticking out from it).

Ateca and Karoq are very similar, yet still very different :) It shows how good is VAG with sharing market between the brands, even using same building blocks.

Technically they are twins, they drive in a very similar way, however "feeling" is very different. Also they used interesting measures to differentiate the cars. For example in 2018, when i bought mine, one could get 360 cameras in Ateca, but not in Karoq. At the same time internet connectivity was only available in Karoq, but not Ateca. There were several differences like this.

I remember i had an Excel sheet listing all the features of those cars (ones i was interested in) to help me make a decision :) In the end Ateca won mostly due to bit better handling (progressive power steering and firmer suspension), which in the end was a mistake (i got tired of firmer suspension and didn't really notice huge difference made by progressive power steering 🤣).

Personally I prefer an estate to an SUV but each to their own.

On an unrelated point, where was the photo taken? Looks like the lake district somewhere but I can't place it. Ullswater?

I've loved the Octavia and my biggest concern is coming away from an estate and the 245bhp 😉 That said I live in the lakes and the roads are crap and the car parks are even worse so the SUV has its benefits. Not regretting it so far.  That photo was Coniston.
