Number plate bulb

Featured Replies

Hello, recently I discovered that one of the two bulbs (C5W 12V/5W) that illuminated the number plate had burned out. I bought 2 Philips C5W 12V/5W bulbs, I installed them, but I discovered that the original ones had a gray tint, while the new ones are clear (they don't have a gray tint). I thought that the gray ones were like that because they were old, but when I tried them, I saw that the light of the new ones (Philips) is a bit stronger and spreads quite strangely.

I would be interested in buying two original bulbs, but from what I can see on this website: https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/n0177254-light-bulb-c5w-12v-5w-skoda-28435.html they also seem to be "clear", I don't see the gray tint in the picture. Does anyone have an idea if this is the correct code: N 017 725 4?

To be even more clear, the Philips ones look like this:

the factory ones look like this:

Thank you!

Yes and? The originals are several years old and the glass envelope has a deposit of tungsten vapour on it.

@Paws4Thot I thought they were specially greyed out, just so they wouldn't be too bright.

Ha many people think this what you need is a frosted glass festoon bulb don't know the specific number but you could probably get them from a motor factors the newer version are the capless bulbs push in or led conversion don't be tempted with led bulbs that shape they are to bright and not suitable to use as a number plate light, other than that they are ok as long as you use the lower wattage not the interior fatter bulbs
