Octavia Scout electrical problems.

Featured Replies

Hi all

i I am asking this on behalf of my brother in west Australia.

His 2013 Scout isn’t starting. It started with having battery problems so had a new battery fitted and after this the Columbus radio unit wouldn’t turn off and just kept saying updating  this was flattening the battery overnight. At this point it was taken to the ŠKODA dealers in Perth who said they couldn’t do anything as the car was too old. So he took it to a car audio specialist who recommended fitting an aftermarket pioneer head unit and the adapter to interface it with all the ŠKODA systems. Since this has been fitted the car will not start and says gearbox isn’t in park, so won’t start. It was towed away from audio place and a local European car specialist has tried to diagnose with his scanner and it shows no communication with the gearbox.

has anyone got any ideas what could be going on with it.

Sorry about the long post but he is at his wits end, and ŠKODA isn’t a well supported brand in Australia.

Hello @mantamad Suggest your brother try an approach to a VW or Audi specialist instead, I am shocked with the reported attitude of the local Skoda dealers - ten years is not exactly ancient in the Antipodean view of vehicles!

Assuming that your brothers vehicle is DSG - and the gearbox issue was clearly not present before the head unit was changed, this is clearly due to the change - possibly not correctly coded or faulty adaptor?

What is the audio 'specialist' going to do about bricking your brothers car?

At the moment he has paid for the recovery (a sign of guilt I would say) other than that it needs to be fixed and if at fault charged to the audio guy.
