My lovely Octavia Estate phev petrol estate is due for first MOT May..Re buying/ordering new model

Recommended Posts

Just looking at the best way to buy a new Octavia Estate in May.    My Octavia Estate  fully serviced almost 20000 miles/perfect condition   is due its first MOT in May   but would like to change/order another before that date  and realise their my be a waiting list for a factory order?   ..

Only two changes required , would like an electric tail gate on the Estate and don't see me buying a Electric  13amp/Electric charge from power station model ... So a petrol /Electric. I think may be the best way to go.....I was thinking of Car Wow  and local dealer,    although not too happy about the local dealer in the past ripping me off on  a service....

Any idea the best way to go about this guys?.

You have taken most of the depreciation hit on a new vehicle, why subject yourself to that again?

Thank you Guys for the info.. Re Service.. I had a VRS Octavia    went for first MOT   they claimed the back discs needed replacing £400  then hit me with the front discs needed replacing at £750  six years ago.. I refused to get the front ones done..Took it to another garage who found NOTHING wrong with the discs ......My son has the car now and has had seven or so MOTs with same brakes /discs and they are not needing replaced...   So I never went back to them inc any service my Skodas required or bought from them They said discs were made of poorer material than old cars which I argued about.

I have recently taken delivery of a pre-reg 1.4 iv.

Have a look on the Škoda Dealers | Barnstaple, Bedford, Canterbury, Croydon, Dartford, Harlow, Leicester, Letchworth, Medway, Milton Keynes, Newbury, Northampton, Nottingham, Oxford & Reading | Marshall Škoda

They have a few still available, but not sure about the electric tailgate.

I saves around 20% by buying a pre reg. (and managed to collect it straight away, and in my name within 2 weeks of it being registered.) also when I picked it up it had 12 miles on it so was not even test driven by anyone else.

@wantaskodaSorry for being stupid, but.

Was it sitting unregistered, they register it and allow you to take it away and then you became the keeper 2 weeks later?

@Biggles33

Back with your vRS was it in for a service before the MOT and they advised it needed discs,

or did it get it,s first MOT and failed on the rear discs, not just an advisory?

It was online as pre reg.

when I first enquired I was told I would have to wait until it had been registered for 3 months before I could take it home.

then another dealership allowed me to buy their pre reg and take it straight away but it would have to stay registered to them until it was 3 months but when I collected it they registered it straight away in my name.

The Kidology with HMRC / Tax payers.

3 months / 3,000 miles demonstrator and they get a nice Tax Break.  or Car in Showroom and need First Registered before end of quarter.

UK Average Fleet C02 emissions and VW / Skoda UK need low emission vehicles first registered to be sure of no penalties.  They are doing as they must.

Get the electrified vehicle punted or they can not First Register they higher emission vehicles.

Question - who currently owns the car?

Back in 2013, the VW dealer over in Kirkcaldy ( Specialist ? ) tried that on with me. I told them where to go.  The tax implications weren't my concern, but what if that dealer went in to administration in those three months?  The car is registered to them, but they too had to be the owner under that 3mth ruling.  The car would then be the property of the administrators ! As a creditor I'm now at the bottom of the list.

I would never advice anyone to do similar.

Followed the links given above. 2.0tdi SEL hatch DSG is listed as £26990.  Go thru a broker such as DriveTheDeal and the same car brand new is £26905 so either go thru them or use that price to bargain with your local dealer. The car will be brand new registered in your name.

I don't mention PHEV because DTD do not have PHEV listed which prompts the question, are Skoda dealers currently taking orders for them?

And at 20,000 miles in 3 years, is there any benefit in chosing PHEV?    I haven't done the sums but to claw back the initial PHEV premium, I'd have assumed someone would need to cover more miles than that?

Just my thoughts .

Rooted....  It was going through the first MOT and they phoned to say that it would not pass the MOT without back brakes /discs being changed..  I told them to do the brake

change  although puzzled as have never even with a hard driven company car gone through brakes..   (Skoda don't make brakes of quality like they used to I was told) Then another phone call to say front needs done .£750+  ..Thats when I stopped them... went to another garage, never went back to them and bought two new Skodas since...    The VRS   has had most likely 6 or 7 MOTs with same front discs that  were needing replaced..  I  do drive an hour away from them to service the car to a Village Skoda garage as lost faith in the dealership.

Thank you for all the replies...

I own the car, and am the registered keeper.

Skoda stopped taking orders because of the back log, but I presume all factory orders had extras as there were a number of standard spec cars available.

Although you cannot see the car on the skoda website, I was told they will start making them again.

I dont care that I am not first keeper.

List price new of the car (SE L) was about £33k, I paid £26k.

The 1.5 SE L on drive the deal is showing  a list of £30k (no extras) and their discounted price is the same as I paid for my 1.4 IV, so actually I am happy.

I've bought many a pre-reg car - absolute no difference to buying new and yes there are many advantages.

But I bet Skoda UK are not aware of that arrangement  and would be furious if they found out. I wonder if that particular dealership's franchise is coming to an end anyway?

The 3 month rule is there to stop exactly what you've just experienced happeneing. Basically it's devaluing the product. An advantage to you yes, but certainly not to the brand or other Octavia owners, something that all manufacturers want, to various degrees, to protect  The garage that offered me the deal would continue to have a good relationship with VW because as far as the manufacturer ( the importer to be exact ) was concerned, the car still belonged to the dealership.

I've known a few manufacturers to turn the screw on their dealers who break the rules, basically cancelling their contracts.

Skoda / VW Group UK know exactly what practices are used to get cars / vans first Registered.

It is them that need to meet the Average Emissions in the UK and need to ensure that they meet the target so that no financial penalties are going to be affecting them.

The practice of Ex Management / Pre-Reg is and has been used for decades, and now for the Emissions, but also for meeting the 'Sales figures' and being in the top sellers,

or just not having models look like flpps.

Sell to them selves then sell used & the SMMT will then tell the media how good sales are going, how well EV and PHEV sales are going.

PS.

Are you going to Victoria Garage Maud?  Which i recommend regularly.

Did i not recommend them to you?

Hi Rooted     I think a friend of mine who had an Octavia first mentioned Victoria Garage  then I think you did  but it was very close together..   Sadly they only sell second hand cars not new....They did offer to buy my last Skoda and offered an extremely good price..  But they have serviced the last two of my Skoda s  coming up to 6 years now  .  The sales man at "a certain garage "   was going to get back to me last week    to give me a rough price for my car........ but has not bothered...   mmmmm nothing changes...

@Biggles33

EDIT, I tried to PM his name, still shows as being there.

My friend was great @ Skoda Specialist Cars Dundee, John Clark Group and i have not popped in recently to see if he has moved on after years with them.

He was a different class of sales person and the ones working with him were great and would pick me up, or the car and take it in for servicing or MOT,s.

It was how it was with Thompson & Potter when in Burrleton before John Clark Group took them over and opened in Perth.

I have only ever been disappointed with them in Aberdeen and have been with family looking for cars and really the attitude i have experienced from the staff is pretty bad.

I had originally reserved and paid a deposit for an SE Tech at one of their other branches and was told I could not have it until 29/2.

This branch not only let me take it straight away, but also transferred it into my name.

do I car what issues they might have.

NO!!! :)
