1.2 TSI Hissing

Featured Replies

Hello

Noticed the development of a hissing / rattling sound on my Yeti.  It does it when I am in a lower gear needing to change up or if I suddenly go up a bank.  Sounds like its coming from the rear of the engine underneath.  Thought it was the exhaust at first but it doesn't always do it.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi

If you climb a bank therefore increase the engine load you will be increasing the turbo boost pressure. Normally you would also press a little harder on the accelerator to maintain speed, but this is something you may do unconsciously.  It's possible you have a small air leak somewhere in the air intake system upstream of the turbo, which will be more noticeable at higher boost. The rattling may be associated with the wastegate and its actuator and linkage on the turbo.

Unfortunately, you can't really test this with the car stationary as there isn't enough load on the engine to get any appreciable boost pressure.

Right - so I have had the Yeti put on a diagnostic.  Turns out the DSG gearbox / Flywheel are both worn and need replacing which will relieve me of £1600

I have never heard of anything like that before - I drive very carefully and don't understand it .  I have had to drive through water as I live rural - I can only imagine that this has caused some of the issues or certainly not helped.  Im absolutely flabbergasted!!  Has anyone experienced anything similar or had a similar problem?

@Sasquatch1971  Who or what sort of place put your car on the diagnostics, a Maindealer's Tech or Fitter, or a Garage / Mechanic or an Auto Gearbox Specialist?

How many miles has your Yeti covered?

I have heard of the likes before, things can be this sort of price or even more,

also heard of the wrong diagnosis, wrong quotes for replacements etc.

PS.

Maybe wading with a DQ200 DSG could be an issue, but seriously i doubt it in a Yeti or many other vehicles with a DQ200.

A well known business in Stoke who major in diagnostics for German vehicles.

I suppose I could get a second opinion but from everyone I have spoken to these lads know their stuff and were recommended by someone I trust.

I am convinced it is partly to do with the water but what can you do - I hoped it would be ok - I have to go to work Im a professional and saying there was water in the road won't wash (excuse the pun)

My worry now is that there will be knock on issues lurking and this car will turn into a lemon

I would go see an Auto Gearbox specialist that works on DSG, not just DSG,s but DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG,s.

Its a 2017 with 60k on the clock

Simple really, you go with their diagnosis and quoted costs and possible final bill or get a 2nd opinion from a Auto / DSG specialist with all the gear and maybe more than ideas.

The Specialist in Diagnosis on German Vehicles might be right on the money.    It is for you to decide.
