help finding which Superb model I should be looking for

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Apologies if this isn't allowed but I'm currently overwhelmed with the variety available in this beautiful model of car so I'm looking for advice to help me whittle down search criteria.

I currently drive an Octavia hatch Mk3 2.0 TDI Elegance with stage 1 Revo remap, with 88k on the clock. I'm looking for a superb to improve ride comfort, seat comfort and to give me more boot space for growing kids bikes and gear.

Must haves - comfortable suspension, comfortable seats, heated seats, decent stereo, as quick as the Octavia, auto cruise control which stops and re starts in traffic (the Octavia will stop but needs foot on the brake after a second) auto high beam, quiet for long trips

Would like - auto parking (as the Octavia has it) cheap tax (Octavia is £30 pa) estate model

any help on what spec to look for, which engine, and any issues to avoid would be much appreciated. thank you in advance

Most superbs have a good level of standard kit so you may find something you like in any model.  L&K have the highest spec.

They all have independent rear suspension where as your octavia has torsion beam rear.  The superb should be more compliant but comfort is subjective so worth a drive to find out.  There are other changes (like vehicle weight) that may affect the comfort more than the suspension design.

Tax is all the same for cars from April 2017 with the extra luxury car tax added for years 2 to 6 for cars over £40k RRP.  A highly specced superb could exceed that.  You have to balance the additional cost of tax against the additional cost of maintenance for an older vehicle.  My car is currently £170/ year which is standard for hybrids.  £180 for petrols/diesels.  The variety of tax rates only applies to the first year the car is registered.

Superbs are lovely cars. Mines a 2018 model. Be very wary of seat comfort. To my mind this is what lets down the car. I'm rather a short person and find the driver's seat VERY uncomfortable, but have to put up with it.

Superb tend to be softer ride, more of a limo than a family car, but the wide variety of wheel and tyre sizes also affect the ride quality.

Not sure how old your current car is, but be careful if you buy a diesel car to euro6d spec, the emissions equipment is very expensive to fix and not happy if get lots of short journey town driving and negligible longer journeys.

The 4x4 versions are heavier (the extra deadweight is like carrying few sacks of cement around), obviously increases fuel consumption and maintenance.  Unless you live up a steep hill, buying a set of winter wheels might work out cheaper than getting 4x4 version.

L&K I think ticks all the boxes for smooth ride with DCC, cruise and distance with ACC, Canton music is a step up from the basic music and ventilated and heated leather seats keep me comfortable on 4+hour drives. My kids love the heated back seats too.
