Belt changes on Skoda Fabia 1.2 HTP 2009 Sports model and other questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have Skoda Fabia 1.2 Sports model 2009 done around 100k.

At 100k can someone tell me what parts should be changed or checked?

I've done regular oil changes and the spark plugs were done 2 years ago.

Can someone tell me if and when I need to change the timing belt on these cars?

I've seen online that as its a timing belt it does not need a change, is this true?

Also the only belt I can see is I believe to be the drive belt(not sure if that what its called) on the side of the engine going around some pulleys.

Can someone advise when and if this belt needs changing too?

The car is driving well enough, but recently I've noticed the engine is sounding louder/noisy than usual. Slight increase in rattling sound.

Thanks for the any help and advise.

I think yours is the earlier engine with a timing chain, the CBZB engine? If so I'd get a chain kit fitted for peace of mind.

A CBZB is a 1.2 TSI.

HTP has a timing chain and that's expensive to change. You'd want to be very sure it is causing a significant problem before spending several hundred on that.

Auxiliary belt can be inspected fairly easily for obvious major degradation, but quite cheap and easy to change if it does look very rough.

Photograph the belt path first though, easy to put new one on wrong if you haven't got a reference to look at.

I thought it was a 1.2 TSI. Obviously.

He didn't say and I didn't think to fire up the background check in his profile, I object to doing detective work to answer somebody's question.

It still has a chain though...
