No infotainments icons showing - old software?

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Octavia IV from 2021 and I have noticed, that the normal icons (globe etc.) above the "INFO" text is gone - and have been for a while. I do have a valid "Care Connect - Remote Access" through the app, however I don't have the "Infotainment Online", could that be the issue?

I also tried to see whether the software version could be the issue, however I cannot access the "SHOW ALL UPDATES" and I don't get any messages about a software update. Any advice?

I’d start by doing a force reboot of the infotainment system (ignition on, then hold a finger on the infotainment on/off button until it starts a reboot).

The updates info has never displayed under ‘show all updates’ - a useless menu item in my view! Somewhere there is a System Information screen. That should tell you the latest version of the major components (but not the many sub components and apps). It should 1941.

Thanks Steve. Forgot to enclose the picture in my original post, as I saw people refer to 1941, but mine is 1803. Was the upgrade to 1941 OTA or by the dealer?

I’ve done it through the dealer; AIUI some of the latest build cars are able to get these big update OTA, older ones not.

Some on these forums have done it themselves (see the infotainment continuously rebooting thread). It’s a thing done at own risk as there is a small possibility it could fail. Personally not something I would try myself but I do have a good rapport with my dealer and they are (have been for the last three years or so) very good.

Tried the reboot, however nothing changed. I do still not see the globe or climate icons. However, when starting the car I see the below before both icons just disappear again.

Could a total reset fix anything, or will it just delete all prior updates?

Also, it seems like I cannot access the privacy setting within the user settings, assume everything is connected to the software “issue”.

A reset should only take the settings back to factory default, shouldn’t undo any s/ware updates, worth a try but could be tedious depending on how much you’ve changed (favourites (radio, satnav), lock/unlock, etc.

In the thread I linked previously there is the TPI for the update to v1941. It lists the faults fixed so worth you having a look and go to your dealer with knowledge of the issues. From memory the TPI is somewhere near page 12 but may be a few either side of that.

Decided to do the factory reset, however I was not allowed since I had to change privacy setting to "max privacy" first. Tried to access the privacy settings, but it would just keep saying "Wait" forever or eventual tell me the the privacy service was not available at the moment.

Any ideas to getting access to the privacy settings, as these are clearly error-filled as well? What a nightmare.

Two thoughts here...

  1. It sounds like the car is offline (no Internet) and it is trying to synchronise your user settings with the Škoda servers - but can't, hence the error messages. I can't think of a way past this one other than taking it to your main dealer and get the technicians to sort it.
  2. A corruption in the profile of the system User that is associated when you unlock the car. To test it, perhaps create another user which should prompt you to set the privacy settings.

I did delete my main profile from the car and logged in again, however I never did get the chance to adjust privacy settings. I cannot still access privacy settings etc., however the Clima icon was back after the reset. The globe is still missing.

I have an appointment within 10 days, hopefully they can update it quite easy.

That must be very frustrating for you, but as you say, hopefully the dealer can update & fix it for you.

Hi! I wonder if you got this issue resolved? I have just bought an Octavia IV 2021 and have the exact same issues. I have tried everything myself and have an appointment next week at the dealer.

I can sign in with my account, but can't access any privacy settings, nor make myself as the primary user.

I have the same software version as well, 1803.

Nope - nothing solved yet. I am talking with Skoda about the issue, as the car had a service check (prepaid as part of our purchase) in the fall, where they didn’t update the software. And therefore I don’t think I should pay for them to run a check and update it manually now.

I actually did have an appointment, due to my car wouldn’t lock on the charging cable. At the same time, I did have an issue with the 12V battery. Before the appointment, a morning the battery was completely flat, and I got it replaced - which also solved the issue with the charge lock. I cancelled the appointment afterwards. Maybe this is useful for other users if the car won’t lock the cable (in the car) for charging.

Please update us when they have checked your software.

Here in the UK we need the dealer to verify ownership before being able to set up as primary user (tracking and privacy issues I think) - presumably similar in other countries.

You don't need to verify vehicle ownership with the dealer just to become the primary user - that can all be done by the user using the two car keys etc.  However, you do have to verify your identity at the dealer to enable features, such as remote locking, which are not automatically enabled for the primary user.

Ah yes, I stand corrected, thanks. I did all that at the same time at the dealers three years ago - my aging memory merged two 🙄

I was told to go to the dealer yesterday to verify my ownership. They told me this was required before I could become the primary user. But I wasn't sure they really knew what they were takling about. I recently bought a Seat which seems to have the same/similar setup and I could become the primary user of that car without any problems. I think the dealer is mixing things up... I am now verified but the problems still the same.

I have no "globe" in the status bar at all. I can't access the privacy settings, clicking "Become primary user" just spins on "Wait..."

Anyway, I have a time booked on Monday at Skoda Service. I'll get back to you if I have any luck... ;)

The dealer is definitely getting confused,  which doesn't fill you with confidence!

When I got my Octavia Estate SEL First Edition, 21 plate, in October 2023 it had an older software version and, along with a whole host of other issues,  the car refused to let me complete the process of becoming the Primary User - I think it just said "Please Wait" and never got to the stage of using the two key fobs to finalise the process.  It's a known issue, this attached TPI might be useful to go armed to the dealer as it mentions not being able to become the "Master User".  Once they installed software version 1941, plus updated the SOS module firmware, it's been a huge improvement - the difference is night and day.  I think it's best to be very firm and specific with dealers what the issues are and what you expect them to do - I go as far as printing out a document with a list of issues, any relevant additional information such as relevant TPI, and I leave one in the car so the workshop cannot miss it and hand one in with the keys.  If you need the infotainment system updating don't let them fob you off that they can't do it and it only comes OTYA - they can.

It might be worth having a read through these topics to see if there is any relevant information:

@spcdust Thank you. This will be useful.

Got a reply from Skoda Connect support just now. This is what they told me...

"Thank you for contacting us.

This issue will be resolved through an automatic reset of the communication unit, which is done at intervals of a few days.
As for your vehicle, the reset will be carried out on March 6, 2024.

Unfortunately, we are aware that this situation may sometimes recur in the future, and therefore we are working on a software update that will permanently solve this behavior. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Well... ok. Hopefully this will work next week 😂 Keep you posted!

  • 1 year later...

I am experiencing the same, or at least very similar, problems on my Skoda Octavia First Edition 2020:

  • no globe symbol at the Infotainment

  • User log-in ends in loading spinner and error message after one minute

  • Privacy settings are not present under user -> setup

  • Endless loading spinners on some related functions like the user register button

@mkrona @AllanSN Could you resolve your issues? And if yes, how did you do it?

I did the MIB update myself to 1989 via USB Stick. But still the same problems. I also tried reset to factory defaults. Reboot Infotainment with 10 second power button press.

I have an appointment at a local German Skoda Dealer/Carshop in a few weeks. I hope they can solve this with a simple update.

When mine was running v1985 I had all the icons in the info box disappear a couple of times and at the same time the satnav would play up big style thinking it was a distance from where it actually was. It was resolved each time after the car was stood for a coyote of hours and the system therefore being fully off rather than just in standby etc….

The only common thing each time cause wise was that I had turned the ignition on/off quickly for different reasons as though the system got itself screwed up whilst booting.
