is dpf/egr still an issue with newer diesels?

Featured Replies

Yes, the egr do give problems. My Passat has a clogged egr. The DPF is fine though. The car done has 200k. It gives the P2002 00 code. It’s been like that for the last 70k but doesn’t affect the running of the car. It just gives an intermittent engine light. I’m tempted to map the code off.

The Buttons i know about are so that the driver can push it when the vehicle is stationary with the engine running.   That is not stationary on a Motorway or Dual Carriageway.

Ah I didn’t know it was only if stationary, seems odd as that’s technically illegal in some circumstances, though never punished

With modern navigation & GPS systems it would be easy enough to learn your weekly usage and a common long route which would be sufficient for regen.

When it detected you are on the usual route it can run automatically.

This would probably fit for the majority of use cases with only some exceptions.

I find it annoying that I drive 95% on the highway but the car always decides it wants to regen on my day off when I just do sort trips taxiing the kids to places.

I used premium fuel when towing It did seem worth it, the diesel  was happy and I felt it performed better (I am sure it did)

The result should have been lower ash.

@Danoid   If it was technically or actually illegal that would be on public roads / public places maybe.

Do it on not public roads if stationary.

As it is the Giving the car laldy on public roads to clear a DPF is kind of crazy, but then thats the crap that came from politicians and environmentally friendly emission rules.

yes , euro 6 diesel engines will regen at idle and the old way of taking the car for a blast up the motorway like you did in the past is not necessary and in most cases  a waste of time.

if the car is not ready to regen, then you cant force it to regen by going for a run at speed.

Frank acceleration at motorway entry is not for DPF, but it avoids EGR valve accumalting too much soot as it happens with engines driven at low revs all the time.

Regarding regen, you can force it if you drive above 2500 or 3000 rpm for 5 to 10 minutes, I can’t remember the exact minimum time.
But it can be forced. I did it once on my Mk2 TDI140 powered (common rail engine)
