Tuning Box on Octavia 2.0 TDi

Featured Replies

Anyone out there tried a plug-in performance enhancer such as a Tuning Box (e.g. from Torque Tec) on an Octavia 2.0 TDi?

What results did you obtain? Any comparisons with an ECU re-map (e.g. Jabba or Celtic Tuning)?

Suppliers claim the Tuning Box type of product is totally non-detectable if removed before the car is dealer serviced. It can then be re-fitted in a matter of minutes after the service. Not tried it myself, any comments from those who have please? :o

Powerklick is fitted to my 2.0 TDi. It took about 20 mins to fit. The harness that comes with it plugs into the side of the cylinder head into a large round plug and then the OEM plug goes into the 'new' harness. The box also has a 12v feed that you take from the battery. I popped 4 small holes into the top of the plastic battery cover and cable tied the tuning box to the top of that.

Figures claim 138bhp to 165bhp. I reckon that is about right - it certainly feels it. It does not smoke any more that I have noticed. It can cause alot more wheel spin in the wet!

It has been off and on my car twice now while being serviced. I can now literally fit or remove it in 5 mins if needed with no sign that it was ever there.

Thanks Jonny,

A very useful and informative response, much appreciated.

Fitted a PSI tuning box to mine, after an initial problem with a wrong loom supplied, it fitted a treat, I've pushed mine down betwen the airbox and battery box, wrapped in a sealed plastic bag. It also fits to the OE loom and to the battery terminals.

I fitted a dry pipercoss airfilter to mine as recommended by PSI, to help the engine breath as the powerbox simply pushs in more fuel, (though the PSI is adjustable with 4 settings; less power, 20hp more, 25hp more, 30hp more )

The top setting seem to make it a bit rough to drive and certainly kicked out too much smoke(over fueling).

I run mine on the 2nd up setting , it drives fine , mpg is approx 45mpg( you can't trust the MFI anymore as the tuning boxes lies to the ECU), but that said I do drive the car hard.

The low down grunt is stunning even compared to a standard 2.0PD, it pulls strongly to the redline (oops not too often) , though you still suffer turbolag from low rpm (1500rpm) if you accelerate suddenly; but then you're off.....

Dragon digital tuning box on a pd 130 engine = rolling road result of 175.5 BHP and 288.6 lbft .......so yes they do work ....some people have had the engine management light come on, but I know of three cars fitted with one and this did not happen to them.

I have had a Dragon tuning box on my Altea 2.0TDi DSG and then sold that and have just gone for a remap , done by Celtic Tuning this morning.

The box was fine for the money (

Hi

Just to throw another one in.

We do Tunit boxes.

We had a try of it on the MK5 Golf.

I drive the Fabia 100PD engine , and it is fun to say the least.

But when I drove the Golf I was not that impressed.

But as soon as the Tunit was plugged in it made the car drive soooo different.

The torque was LOADS better and that is what matters when you drive a diesel.

It is didgital and is adjustable via a laptop.

We did some minor adjustments with the lap top and wow

It was sooo much fun I did not want to stop driving it.

They say 7 - 10% better fuel economy , but I did not see that side of it , I was too busy having fun.
