Handbrake sticks on and then clunks free when you set off

Featured Replies

I searched a bit for this and can't see anyone has mentioned it here.  So does anyone else have experience of this?   It's not something that's ever been an issue with other cars parked in the same place over the same wintery / wet conditions.  Fairly often I will release the handbrake in my 2023 4k miles Scala and the brakes will be stuck, until I press the accelerator harder and free them, often with a small clunk as they release.

Seems odd to me, is it a dealer visit to get the sliders greased?  Or a known issue with a service bulletin to fix it?

I've had this occasionally. Usually after I've washed the car and the discs have been wet, then dry out. They get a bit sticky perhaps.

Its not the first car I've had this happen with.  I've done 44k miles and there has not been any problem with brake performance and no concerns with the annual test and servicing.

This happens to my Scala as it has on the last few Vauxhalls I had with rear disc brakes, usually after heavy rain or a car wash as has been said. Not a real problem, just annoying. If the car is a manual and it really irritates you and the drive is level you could leave the car in gear with the handbrake off.
