I downloaded the firmware, but I don’t know if I need to look for papametry, or if just the firmware is enough.

Why do you want to update?

If the update is necessary/applicable, there will be a TPI available with a software adaptation code for use within ODIS. This will handle any parameterisation if necessary

You'll likely find the update was rolled out as part of a campaign containing updates for multiple control modules

I love it when my phone, MacBook and car had fresh, up-to-date software. If I buy ODIS, can I update it myself?

ODIS/GEKO requires security clearance and approval by VWAG, along with an expensive diagnostic adapter. It's only available to businesses, not individuals

If you update using pirated software, with stolen credentials and cloned tools - you're on your own when something goes wrong. 0 support from VWAG

Newest version number does not always mean it is meant for your car! You should not take that number as gospel.

Some updates have been put in place to fix/remove features in certain sale zones and as such you may loose features by updating to an unknown number.

Your phone and macbook get updates that are applicable to your phone specifically, when your car is due a software update it will have a TPI, a letter in the post or a dashboard warning to let you know.

Also of note - gateways come from different manufacturers, you cannot use the firmware interchangably although part numbers are exactly the same. You will brick the module if you did this.

Can an official dealer carry out this procedure? Without TPI, can he see that new firmware versions have appeared and update them for me?

No, there is no need.

Software updates are there to fix issues - if there is an issue related to your car a TPI will be there for it and the update will be done by a SVM code. It is only done if the user has the specific symptoms/issues/complaints as not all cars will have the issue or require the update.

They write on the Internet that with this gate and this firmware, the radio often goes into protection of the components. I don't want to wait for this to happen to me.

No, it will not. TPI is just information for service centers how to deal with some issues reported by users. Thing is, that not all service centers and not always are willing to check if there's TPI, so in many cases you can report issues that is covered, however they will still tell you there's nothing they can do...

That's ball... you know what. If there is a faulty software, fixes should be applied to all cars, even if one doesn't see symptoms at the moment. Considering how complex are current cars, many users think that their symptoms are "features" or are related to something else (i.e. it's easy to blame your phone for issues with AA or CP, where in fact they are caused by infotaiment software).

That being said, i also strongly recommend NOT TO UPDATE software on your own, especially not knowing what you are doing. You might cause yourself serious issues rather than improve things, especially with things like gateway. Just think that gateway is connecting all computers in the car together. If something goes wrong, you might need towing to nearest delarship so they can program everything from scratch (for a steep price) just to get your car moving again.

I have already decided that I will not update myself. And 2 authorized dealers have already told me that for money they will update these 3 units for me without any problems. I guess they know how to do it. Thank you.
