Octavia vrs iv brake disks edge corrosion

Featured Replies

Just had car in for oil change service at 20000 miles, had it for 8 months and it's just over 2.5 years old.

All good except discs front and back have rust around outside edges, discs only worn 20%.

Skoda put it as advisory and quoted at over £1k, I appreciate that all discs corrode, the actual surfaces are ok.

My gripe is u have only had the car 8 months and done less than 3k miles, should this not have been picked up when thd car was bought and after 8 months of ownership, should I be facing a £1k repair bill.

Mot due 6 months, what the chances Skoda fail it.

Skoda had nothing to do with it, it was the Dealership staff.

That is up-selling.   Amazed they never said 80% worn.

The cars they have for sale will likely be the same and they are not fitting new discs and pads before the new owners gets it.

The pads are only 20% worn and the car was bought from the Skoda dealership

Yes if you had looked harder and wanted to avoid being mugged for £1K

JR you are so perfect

In my experience the dealers are creating work for themselves.  Get a second opinion from an alternative garage (preferably one that does MOT testing so they know what is acceptable).  My dealer wanted to a) replace the aircon pump (too noisy) - aircon specialist said 'rubbish' and just ensured the freon mix had the correct amount of oil it b) replace the covers over the top of the rear shock absorbers - I ignored them and no other garage afterwards suggested it was a problem.  Your dealer is just trying to keep his workshop full.

Find another dealer. And.... VAG OE discs and pads aren't much cop, either.
