Roomster re map

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 1.2 TDI Roomster and it's had the VW fix remap..I was wondering if I can get it back to how it was before the VW remap?

Talk to local Tuners / Remappers and see if they can Roll it Back.   If they have done ones before, you do not want them experimenting.

When was it given 'The Fix' and what issue is it causing since done?

It was given the 'fix' before I bought car...full service history from main dealer and a lot of money spent on it by previous owner..it's a bit tatty but I really like the car but the regeneration is doing my head in..I was thinking if it went back to it's original setting it might regen less?  It seems to make no difference how far or not I drive..came back from 200 mile motorway trip and car regenerated next day..sometimes twice a day!  At least twice a week it regenerates, I try not to switch off car whilst regen is going...so I let  it idle till it's finished..I could be wrong but I think it uses about  a third of a gallon on a regen! So every week I'm using an extra gallon of fuel! And the economy is ok about 50 mpg average..but I read they were more frugal in their original setting?  I love the car to be honest and I'll wear the extra diesel if I have to as I don't some mapper messing my car up! I have got used to the tall gearing and find it quite quick once you get into it's power band..the car carries my two Ebikes on its tow bar cycle carrier and its very spacious inside..I do hifi a bit and have hi res music on my phone and from phone into jack by handbrake into aux on radio the sound is very good indeed..I see a few Roomsters here in Hastings but havent seen another greenline Roomster..I bought some dpf cleaner but it didn't make any difference and I only use the premium Texaco diesel in my car.

My Yeti was like that, I had the emissions "fix" rolled back and now I notice maybe 2 or 3 regens a year, yes there will be more than that going on un-noticed on longer journeys but its back to how it was designed (by cheaters!) to be, my now ex UK neighbour has an Octavia with same engine, he has never allowed it to be done and wont use dealers for fear they will, his has always been like mine is now and was my benchmark.

It wasn't cheap but well worth it to avoid having to keep extending journeys to allow far too frequent regens to complete or have them occur on every journey well before the engine even warms up enough, all that unburnt fuel washing past the rings and diluting the oil is very undesirable.

Actually saying it wasn't cheap, I had a Celtic Tuning stage 3 remap, had I been able to take the car to their workshops in Cornwall they were going to do the rollback FOC at the same time, but it was during Covid, travel from France was very difficult, they had a big backlog so I had it done by one of their dealers, well worth the money!

A couple of years later I was in the area for a funeral, I dropped in on the offchance and had one hour to spare before the service, they were very good and did the rollback for me straight away, it wasn't cheap but great service that I could never dream of in my country.

My reason for mentioning it is if they will still do the rollback FOC during a remap then you effectively get the remap very cheaply or the rollback FOC whichever way you look at it.

@J.R.  What hardware changes are done with a 2.0TDI when you are putting a Celtic Tuning Stage 3 Map / Engine management on the ECU?

What is the uping in BHP / Nm that you get from a stage 1, or a 2 or a stage 3.

PS

Re 1.2 TDI,s.

Some were the first VW engines to get The Fix, and were really messed up.  The 1.6 TDI fix was delayed.  Air Flow device & Software.

As it turns out, there were those that took in 1.2 TDI,s or asked about The Fix and said not required even though they showed on the VIN Checker and they got a letter.

There were ones that were never done but maybe the Dealership was paid when the VIN checker changed to not required.

Stage 3 I had is allegedly 184hp from 108 standard, they have a rolling road video on their website, me I am sceptical of all BHP claims and rolling road readouts, I doubt the maximum power is that, I never thrash it anyway but the overtaking torque and rev range are night and day different compared to standard and fuel economy is excellent because I dont drive it for the thrill.

The far wider rev range and torque means you only need one gear for overtakes, with a 6 speed box its not easy to know the optimum gear when you no longer drive like the road is a racetrack, if its one gear too high (in retrospect) the huge torque will cover it, if one gear too low then the extended rev range means you dont need to upshift.

Is it really stage 3 with the standard hardware?

Intake, full exhaust, intercooler and hard pipes, turbo, injectors, fuel pump, wastegate.   Not just the Name and a badge on the boot with 3 flashes like some with a APR remap have.

Everything in the tuning game is made up, words are cheap, I was thinking just that when I commented on the engine for sale a couple of days ago.

FWIW I reckon its the standard VAG 170 map, perhaps tweaked for the smaller turbo, its plenty powerful enough for me and still gives oustanding economy, it feels altogether to refined to have been done by a teenager with acne and a laptop on a rolling road.

For me the combination of the smaller turbo and the remap could not be bettered, it's the best towing vehicle I have ever had by a huge margin.

No boot badges for me, I prefer incognito.

So I need more oil changes too?  Grrr lol..I'll look into this and  hopefully someone local can roll it back ( Sussex ) thanks for the information.

My ex has the 1.2tdi she's averaging mid 60s and has never noticed a regen so guessing it's never had the fix.

I am using vag dpf now so get a warning when it's coming and how long since the last one.

I would definitely swap my 1.6tdi with her the only thing better on mine is the panoramic roof
